Degree from Edinburgh University

I'm very interested attending this university. I have read somewhere in this forum that EBS doesn't require undergrad degree to get MBA..

I want to know the accreditation from this school.. Also I want to know which Universities in US will accept the credits from this School for another Masters, preferably in LAW.

Are you getting University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt confused?

It is the Heriot-Watt/Edinburgh Business School that has the MBA degree you are referring to

I understand that a bachelor degree is not required for admission.

The University of Edinburgh MBA degree is not offered by DL and requires a honors bachelors plus other requirements to be admitted

Both of these universities have royal charters.

Most US schools will probably accept appropriate credits for graduate degrees from these schools but usually limit transfers to 6 to 9 semester units. You would have to check with the school you are interested in/

 

I meant Heriot Watt- If I can get my MBA and not have to worry about my Bachelor's then I think this college will be the best option.

 

It seems to be that schools in the UK are somehow able to wave the Bachelor requirement.

Just so we don't totally dis the University of Edinburgh, they actually do have a bunch of distance learning degree programs. Here's a page from their grad catalog:

That one is run on Wikipedia as a definition of distance education. I took Woho's comment as the need for one for a broader view on distance learning. Somewhere to add lists of schools and such.

 

Yes, EBS at Heriot-Watt doesn't require an undergraduate degree, BUT, you must complete and pass 3 core courses until you are formally matriculated into the university. It is a great school. I was both a DL and on-campus student, but do not confuse it with The University of Edinburgh. (also a great school.)

The school has a Royal Charter, which is equivalent to RA accreditation in the US. They are not AACSB, AMBA, or anything else.

I was able to transfer 30 credits of the MBA towards my PhD program at UF, however, my PhD is in Operations Management, so they were applicable.

Each school and each department has their own policies. I don't think you will have the same luck with a JD program. US ABA Law schools may still require an undergraduate degree, even if you have an EBS MBA.

During the 8 years I was involved with marketing the Heriot-Watt MBA in the US (1991-99), at one point, we communicated with 30 major US universities asking this question, about transfer of credits, as well as using the MBA to enter their doctoral programs, and also hiring for faculty jobs.

As I recall, they all would accept the credits, to the limit they would accept transfer credits from any regionally accredited US university (25% was the maximum; many wre less). Roughly two thirds would accept it for meeting the master's requirement for entering a PhD . . . but the others said they regard any MBA as a terminal professional degree, and do not accept. All would accept it for hiring.

I especially liked the response from the University of Chicago, which said that "If this degree is good enough for the Queen of England (i.e., the royal charter), then it is good enough for us."

Damn you, for giving me yet another degree to add to my "one day" list.

 

Absolutely not. If that were true, the University of Florida would not have admitted me to their PhD program and allowed me to transfer 30 credits from Heriot-Watt.

 

However it is true that many Scotish universities offer an MA degree as a first degree. (Check this list from the University od Edinburgh for example http://www.ed.ac.uk/studying/undergraduate/finder)

 

There are other DL MBAs in the UK where this is possible - my school Henley also allows entrants without a Bachelors who fulfil certain criteria.

A bit of internet research will unearth others.
