    Hi,

Could someone provide me with some information on an online doctoral program in economics/economics-related field?

Info on doctoral degree "by research only" is of interest to me, as well.

I will also be happy to get some info on online Post-Master's certificates in economics.

    Thank you in advance.

    UNISA (University of South Africa)
offers a number of Research Doctorates in Economics, Business Economics and Transport Economics.

If you decide to apply with UNISA, and you live in the U.S. or Canada, might I suggest contacting IACI. They are very good at cutting through the red tape that is UNISA.

    Good Luck!

Hi eco - I'd suggest that you focus your attention on the relatively small set of Australian Universities. Try Melbourne, Charles Sturt and Deakin first. Good luck.

The Doctoral School in Economics and Management offers a wide training for research in the fields of decision sciences, organisation, human and natural resource management and the functioning of markets, with a special attention to methodologies used in a behavioural approach to economic studies. The Departments of Economics and the Department of Management and Computer Science have a strong international reputation in this field and in modelling markets and organisations through computational and experimental methods.

Do you mean the one in Italy? A link would be helpful.

I'd like to thank all of you for the helpful information. The issue with the Australian shcools is that their tuition rivals that of their American counterparts (I live in Washington, DC). Their programs, however appear to be much more flexible. I will definitely check out the universities you recommended.

UNISA seems like a plausible option, as well. I don't know anything about the Doctoral School in Economics and Management but I guess I can always google it.

Any additional information you could provide would be of great help to me.

BTW, does anyone have any contact info for Northland Open University (E-mail, functioning website, phone #, mailing address, etc.)?

I'd advise you to read this old thread before proceeding further in that direction.

Does anyone have rough ideas as to what the tuition for a doctoral degree from UNISA would be?

Also, are there any residency requirements associated with that program?

Does anyone know if there are any universities that grant Ph.D.s by publication (or by publication plus some additional work)?

This practice does exist. The schools I know that do this are all British schools. As far as I know, you have to be a faculty member at THAT school in order to be eligible.

Studying a graduate course in economics will make you a highly sought after candidate for both the public and private sectors. You may want to work as an economist with a government. A general graduate economics course will keep your options open, but you could specialise in labour economics, industry, public finance, health or agriculture. There are many graduate programs to choose from and the career opportunities are varied.

Could anyone provide some information about the accreditation status of Harrison Middle University?

Thanks, Ian. I believe that this may be the program for me. The D.A. in Social Sciences will do the trick, especially with economics being one of the social sciences.

Just a quick question. In case things don't work out (for me) with the Harrison Middle University, I would like to have a plan B. For that purpose, does anyone know what the least expensive university in the Rep. of South Africa is for pursuing a doctoral degree?

In my own opinion I'd say that the cost is so small that any differences that exist will be negligible. In regards to doctoral programs it will be far more important to have a good proposal ready and to aim it towards one or two specific professors that you have already identified as being interested in the same areas as yourself.

Does anyone know anything about the Global Open University, which seems to be operating out of Zambia?

Is this an accredited institution (I know that's a very relative term)?

OKOKOK! You've already given some clues (and that's not good).

First - "...which seems to be operating out of Zambia." SEEMS? What makes you think that it's not ACTUALLY operating out of Zambia?

Second - "Is this an accredited institution...? If you can't tell from the website then there's a problem.

Third - Try to find the website of the Zambia Ministry of Education (or whatever else it might be called. I spent a whole 3 minutes trying to find a website for the Zambian government. I got nothing. Maybe somebody else has a better google technique. I'd love to see the results.
