    Came across Califorina Pacific University.

I haven't read too much press about this. This is NOT Columbia Pacific University which was shut down.

California Pacific University seems to be approved by the State according to their catalog they sent me, but I can't seem to find too much on their website.

What do you guys think about this institution? Have they really been around for 30 years? Are they really legit?

I'm thinking about doing my PhD in Management with them....

There are several alumnus in this site including myself, I graduate with MBA/DBA, the school is legitimate under California law. With the many options now available it makes no sense to pursue a State approved degree it has to many limitations or perhaps illegal in some states. Me personally, I don't care what people think about this degree, I got from CPU. The knowledge acquired has help me with the doctoral process such as the one I am doing right now (DBA in accounting). If I had the options that I have now, I would not go that route, but back then the options were very limited, so back then, the decision was made under the circumstances.

That was very well said. There are a lot of options so why limit yourself?

Is it safe to assume you have a masters degree? Is it from a regionally accreditied school, nationally accreditied, or neither? This makes a difference when looking at PhD programs. How much do you want to spend? Does the PhD need to be an accreditied degree? What do you plan to do with it?

I guess you miss my signature line, I am going at Northcentral University. There are other economical options such as DETC degrees and you may have the possibility to get financial aid. Columbia Southern University has DBA in general Business and they have financial aid (you can use student loans). The only problem is DETC accredited and for now it may have limitations. NCU is the is economical DBA/PhD regional accredited University online, but lack of financial aid. But they offer a payment plan.

I was stationed at Camp Pendleton, and used to live in Vista and Oceanside; but never heard of the school until after leaving the station. The school is in Escondido, just about 5 miles away from Vista and 10 miles aways Oceanside.

Hi. You didn't reply to any of the responses about your need for earning a doctorate.

Randell asked about what you want to do with a doctorate. That's the really important question. Vini's response said it well.

So what do you want to do with the doctorate?

If you want to open a lemonade stand, or do just about anything else, it isn't necessary.

Choosing a doctorate flows from what you want to do with it.

College teaching is really the only purpose requiring the earning of a doctorate.

Since my molecules are currently parked in California, I suppose I could call you "Doctor" for a tall drip no-room at Starbucks... Where's my printer? ;-)

Oh, you asked about California Pacific University. Good school. Good learning. Legal doctorate. As real a doctorate as the State-approved system (now defunct) produced. Can be useful for showing subject matter competency but not accepted for college teaching. Comparable to Western Institute for Social Research on the real-ness scale.

So, what do you want to do with the doctorate?

    Cheers,

    Dave

Maybe he just wants a fancy certificate for his walls. Maybe he likes the idea of significant academic committment. There are many reasons to get a PhD, need is only one of many.

I'm sure you're aware of this. Just thought I'd point it out...;)
