It was all in fun, guys, but you played the game well. Peace to all! Dr. Maybelle Jones Not a real name, nor a scholar!
Which shows the reason that crediability and nicks without accounability are an issue. ------------------ Best Regards, Dave Hayden
ALl of which proves that Maybelle Jones was an amateur con artist. He/she (and my guess is that it was a guy) was busted too easily. (Remember, a truly great con artist sticks with the con.) As for who Maybelle might have been, any guesses are mere speculation. Leland Milton Goldblatt? Doubt it - Goldie's spelling and grammar are far too sloppy. Neil Hynd? Doubt it - Neil is a degree mill apologist, but he has never shown such a proclivity. Peter French? Best guess of all, since Peter has openly played B.S. games in the past. But we'll never know (unless Chip has traced the posting source). And, frankly, it doesn't particularly matter.
Yet another postscript . . . Of the guesses that have been made on the identity of Maybelle Jones, there is one that hasn't popped up yet that is almost too obvious. Keeping in mind that Maybelle's writing style was fairly tight, and based on the wording of some of the posts, I would posit one otehr possibility: our old and dear friend Sheila.
What??? Sheila’s a guy?!!! (or a he/she?!!!!!!) Steve, do you know something we aren’t aware of, or are you just fishing for another lawsuit?
No, not to my knowledge . . . However, I've had a few doubts about whether Enrique is a guy. But I digress . . .
I think those who are speculating on the identity of "Maybelle" have missed the thread that appeared in the "off topic" forum. Following some detective work which the moderators shared with me, I sent Bruce the following, which he posted: From South Carolina, a minister Behaved just a wee bit too sinister. He called himself "Maybelle" From under the taybelle. We exposed him/her--Click--and that finished her. Bruce then asked: How do you like it? And "Maybelle" immediately replied, "But Bruce, its all in fun! And BTW, I do like it--good detective work."
