    Anyone have any experience with learning foreign languages via DL? Was thinking about International Business as a major, but I'm not sure how... effective... the language courses would be. Particularly useful would be first-hand experience in:

    * French
    * Italian

    Thanks for any answers. :)

    Learning foregin language online is not hard, especially all the technologies are available. It is only if you want to study hard enough to master the language, or hold a coversation. I know some people learn how to speak the language by watching movies.

    I learned English in this manner, so it is possible, but that was a long time ago. The way I see it, learning a language is all about the words. Building your vocabulary. Once this foundation has been laid, you will be able to "hear" it, and in time, actually understand it. I'll use myself as an example. I'm a fan of Japanese animation. Been for many years. But I was never able to "understand" Japanese. As some people say, it sounded like "moon speak". It was only when I started researching the words that I finally began to "hear" them. They stood out, because I "knew" them. The brain is only able to recognize what it is familiar with. The rest is filtered. So yeah, online is as good a place as any to learn a language. You won't become fluent, but if you put some effort, it is a good starting point. Here are a couple of sites that might help you decide if this is the right method for you:
