After doing a ton of research on DL schools, I have decided to go with Fort Hays State University. The price and the rep did it for me. They also took a lot of my credits. I was leaning towards TESC, but the staff at FHSU really made things happen for me. I applied, sent my transcripts in and was contacted in about a week with the classes I needed to graduate. They also sent me a list of recommended classes . I'm 45-hrs away from my BGS with a concentration in mechanical and electrical technology, which I think is pretty damn good. It may not be much to most people, but it means a lot to me. I'm saying that to say this, any helpful advice from a Fort Hays State graduate or current student would be greatly appreciated.
Congratulations on your decision. If you still take and transfer in CLEP or similar exams that might save you some time and expense.
Welcome aboard I've been at FHSU since '05, working on my degree..and if all goes well, I should be done next summer. If there's anything I can do for you, drop me a line
Best of luck and I do not think it is accurate to say, "it may not be much to most people..." If it was not much, most people would not have done it. To be honest, my BS was the toughest to stay focused on and complete.
Thanks to everyone! What I was getting at was the whole General Education thing. People look at me crazy when I say I'm going back to school to complete a BGS degree. It's a big deal to me and that's all that matters at the end of the day. I just wanted to let you know that comment was about people around me. You guys have been great.
Larenceq, in another post you mentioned you live in Alabama and you have mentioned several different degree programs of interest. Have you looked at Athens State University Bachelors in CS with a CIS option? http://www.athens.edu/academics/onlinedegree.php Tuition in state is $111.00 per credit http://www.athens.edu/admissions/tuition.php I drove through the FHSU campus last year on a road trip and it is interesting, nice small town.
Yes, I have looked at them. When I first looked into distance education my plan was to earn a degree in management of technology from Athens, or Technology from UWA. Both of those school gave me a hard time about not having enough general education classes so I moved on.
1. How much per credit hour, including fees? 2. How many credits have to be from FHSU to graduate? 3. Do they take ALL CLEP and DANTES credits?
Fort Hays is like 161.00 per hour. You have to take 30-hrs at Fort Hays Fort Hays will take CLEP and DANTES credits, I just don't know how many. http://www.fhsu.edu/navy/test.php
see if these help: http://web.fhsu.edu/universitycatalog/gen/bachelorsdegree2.asp http://web.fhsu.edu/universitycatalog/gen/specificsubjectexaminations.asp http://web.fhsu.edu/universitycatalog/gen/correspondencecredit.as
Man, I changed my mind like a millions times about which school and program I was going to enroll in. I finally just enrolled and paid my tuition to keep from changing my mind again. lol I even ordered my books!
FHSU has been a favorite of mine for quite awhile; the price is great, solid reputation, and everything I've heard about customer service has been positive. The main advantage TESC would have is the ability to transfer 120 credits, but if you have to complete 30+ credits anyway, that doesn't matter.
One of our college employees is enrolled at FHSU for Business Admin. She is very satisfied with the program. Shawn
Thanks for sharing. After hearing so many positive things about Fort Hays, I know I made the right choice.
