Hello, I'm new to this forum and really like all the info I am getting. My background, I am a Lead Software Developer with an MSIS. For my current job I am in need of more Project Management skills. I graduated 3 years ago and my PM skills are a bit rusty. I want to take a refresher courses that will yield practical tips, not just a PMP Exam Cram type course. I do eventually want to get my PMP Cert, but not just yet. Also, careerwise I am also looking at IT Manager jobs; I'm not locked into Project Manager roles exclusively. I am looking at the on-line Stanford Certified Project Manager and Villanova University's Master Certificate in IS/IT Project Management. Does anyone have any experience with either certificate? Besides name recognition, is one better than the other? Thanks for any input.
I work with folks who have done one or the other of these programs. Neither carries academic weight so they would only be good for the material covered. Stanford's name may carry more weight on a resume. None of the folks who took these courses expressed dissastifaction with the content. Both passed their PMP exams. Unless you only want the name I would recommend looking at some of the other schools mentioned in other threads (Western Carolina for example)for either an academic PM certificate or a degree. You can go to the PMI page: http://www.pmi.org/CareerDevelopment/Pages/NA.aspx and find some schools. some more options: http://www.worldcampus.psu.edu/ProjectManagementCertificate.shtml http://business.gwu.edu/grad/mspm/index.html http://www.amberton.edu/PMC.htm Holler if you need more. Best wishes,
Boston University has a graduated certificate in Project Management. If you don't like the PMP certification, then Graduated Certificate would fit in what you're looking for.
Recommend SCPM I have taken few SAPM courses and planning to take few more this year. Highly satisfied with the courses. From http://knowitright.com/content/sapm/ I have found others also to find this course useful. http://knowitright.com/content/sapm answers most of my other questions too. Btw, I've taken PMP as well and still found SAPM very useful.
