Post Strayer or Kaplan - Info Sys/Info Tech BS?

I need your opinions, especially from former or current students of these two:
Kaplan College and Strayer Universiity - I have researched myself to death and narrowed it down to these two - with Univ of Phoenix on the back burner as a possible #3 to choose from...
Saw something on new group about possible probs with Strayer re Financial Aid..

    Help!!! ASAP!!!

I get a fair number of laments and complaints from students. A small handful from Kaplan students; can't ever remember one from Strayer students.

There has been discussion on this forum about proprietary vs. non-profit, especially when situations arise (as they seem to, a few times each year) when the cost accountants pull the plug on a non-performing division of a giant corporation that isn't pulling its weight, when a comparable non-profit entity might hang on much longer. (Kaplan is a division of the huge Washington Post/Newsweek group.)

Strayer University is heaquartered in my neck of the woods (the Washington DC Metro area). They're reputation around here is comparable to National University's in San Diego: No big deal either way. Both schools focus on mid-career professionals, use pragmatic approaches to teaching business, and use a great deal of adjunct faculty working in their respective fields. When you attend Strayer , people realize you're filling a square, but at least you're filling it with some substance.

If you have looked at and eliminated Excelsior, Univ. of Maryland and Univ of Mass. what were your reasons? Kaplan seems definately behind these choices. Strayer I have no information on. If you are looking for advice and recommendations it would be a great idea to give some specific information on what position or job you are looking for. Thanks.

I am looking for degree from an online college/university that offers several micro and midsized computers . I am currently a computer analyst for mainframe systems using older technologies (pl/1, sas, focus, a little cobol,,,), and I want to update my technical expertise to the new languages. I am especially interested in Oracle technology.

I eliminated Excelsior(Regent ) because it seems that it doesn't actually offer courses, as such, but depends on credits and experiences that you already have gotten elsewhere.

I eliminated Univ of Mass (at Lowell) and Univ of Maryland because they did not offer as many programming languages as Strayer .

    UMass (at Lowell): VB,C++,JAVA,UNIX,PERL

UMaryland (University College): C++, UNIX, JAVA,PERL, VB, SQL

Strayer : Oracle, SQL, UNIX, JAVA, COBOL, VB, C++,

I have recently eliminated Kaplan but Strayer is presently my strongest 'contender'.

    Hi Parislexi

Thanks for your response. You may want to rethink putting Strayer at the head of the list. I think the utility of the degree would be much lower than either U. Mass. or U. Maryland. I believe Cobol is in pretty limited use at this point with C++ (C#)and Java being the most useful languages. If possible it would be useful to know if you plan on going into programming , database administration or network administration . Hopefully you'll get some more responses from people in this forum. Thanks.

I plan to go into Oracle as an application developer (versus database administrator). Not too interested in networking but would like to know what it is about in general.

Perhaps I need to add here that I am a middle aged woman (55 years old) and have been a mainframe programmer/analyst on mainframe systems for over 25 years. I have an Associates degree (from 1966!) and have taken 7 classes, so far, from a traditional
accredited University in my hometown. I have a total of about 103 transferrable credits (according to the University I am now attending). I'm not too interested in writing about life experiences via portfolios, etc. - just want some good old fashioned learning regarding recent technologies - Oracle, SQL, VB, JAVA - and other business related courses...

My job as a consultant is in jeopardy and I need to learn something 'new' in order to be marketable.
