    Hi

I have spent almost 20 years in IT / Business Management and have a raft of school, college and professional qualifications (including LCGI, GCGI and MCGI from C&CI).

I am looking for a cost effective way to obtain an accredited MBA from either USA or Europe, with hopefully some decent quality attached. Ideally, one which would take my current accredited qualifications and proven work knowledge/experience would also be useful.

I have researched the OU (open.ac.uk) and their prices are way too much for me at this time.

    Many thanks for any pointers.

Do you have a bachelors degree? You may want to look at Heriot-Watt University as an option. You could test out of the MBA but I am not sure of the cost. I would doubt any respectable institution would grant you an MBA based on work experience.

Man, I wish the DL wiki would be already up. I bet there are other programs out there in the UK besides watt, UoLondon and UoLiverpool. With some coordination we could sort through this much better.

    Jonnie's Distance Learning Page lists many M.B.A. programs in the UK;

Yeah I know, but it's over 60 universities to wade through their sites and find where they hide informations on their tuition, pre-requirements, examination conditions, w or w/o thesis, duration or presence requirements. I guess in the end we all have maybe around 10 to 15 factors on which we make the basic decisions if we want to look deeper into a program. And that's for what I would think a wiki could be a great thing. :)

You take a comprehensive final for each subject, which you can sign up for at any time, but that is not really "testing out". You still have to pay the full tuition price even if you just want to take the final. (I don't recommend this.)

I'm not familiar with the qualifications topping.tv listed, but Heriot-Watt does grant exemptions for up to 2 core courses for qualifications such as the CPA, CFA, and others. A list is at http://www.ebsglobal.net/information/documents/Exemptions_Professional_Quals.pdf . If you hold a professional qualification that is not listed you may request that it be assessed for eligibility by submitting a certified (and, if applicable, translated) copy of the award certificate, examination results and a detailed syllabus to the university.

    cheap MBA?

I was enrolled in the free distance MBA program at BTH Sweden

You can't get no more cost effective than free. Even the textbooks were (unlawfully) uploaded so that students could avoid buying books.

BHT will absolutely NOT give you any credit for prior learning or quals. Also, while BTH is a State university in Sweden and is therefore "accredited" in the same sense as US Regional accreditation, the MBA program is not accredited by any of the MBA accrediting agencies. You can search for previous discussions for more detail.

    I don't mind.

Here's what I wrote in my query about the MPH at Western Cape

Note: Long-time users of this board will recall that I was enrolled in the FREE distance MBA program at Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) in Sweden.

I found it excruciatingly boring and I dropped out after the first year. Fortunately, my staff position has been changed from administration to health services, so i can study something a bit more interesting. No doubt some users will think it foolish of me to quit a free masters program that I was half-way through, but I'm too old to be studying something I dislike so.

Thanks for your response. I get disconnected from time to time.

    Hey Warguns,

I remember when you enrolled in Blekinge. Were you able to transfer those credits ok?

    Decision made

I've done further reasearch on this and decided to go down the Open University route (open.ac.uk) which is more cost effective and gives better flexibility for me.

    Many thanks for all input.
