with applications being accepted in October - and a January 9, 2009 deadline for a March 30, 2009 start date. I am still several years away from my start date but this is still on my options list and I would like to hear if anyone starts this program.

    Hello,
You are receiving this email because you have requested to be included in Athabasca University's Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) update list. We are pleased to inform you that the University has just received permission to begin offering this degree. A public and media release on this program is planned for the week of September 29, however, we thought that you would appreciate knowing of this good news as soon as possible. We are in the process of updating our website to reflect this announcement and will have all of the relevant program details available shortly. In the meantime, we are able to provide a few details that may assist you in preparing to apply.

    Basic Program details:
Applications for the DBA will be accepted starting October 1. 2008. The application period will close on January 9, 2009. As this first intake requires a short window for applications, we will have some ability to accept late submissions given these unique circumstances.
Program will commence on March 30, 2009 (there will be one week mandatory residential orientation workshop, likely the week of April 5, 2009).
Students are expected to complete the program in a minimum of three years and a maximum of seven years.
We are currently putting the finishing touches on course names and numbers and will have this information on our website shortly.
The program tuition will be approximately $50,000 CDN, with additional program fees of $4,000 per year for students who require more than four years to complete the program.
It is expected that the first cohort group will be made up of approximately 12 people.

We are in the process of finalizing our application package, but in the meantime, here is what we are looking for in our applications. To be eligible to apply you must:
    hold an accredited Master of Business Administration degree (or equivalent Master’s degree) and have five (5) or more years of significant managerial and/or professional experience;
submit a completed application package, consisting of:
    a completed application form
a detailed resume demonstrating five or more years of significant management and/or professional work experience
a 1000 – 1500 word preliminary research proposal detailing research interests
three letters of reference, ideally from two professional and one academic source; references from personal friends or relatives will not be accepted
official transcripts, sent directly to Athabasca University Centre for Innovative Management (CIM) from the respective institution(s); applicants with degrees obtained outside of North America may be required to have educational qualifications assessed independently by Alberta’s International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS)
Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) results, completed within the previous 10 years and preferably within the previous 5 years. GMAT results (normally expected to be above 550), are to be sent directly to CIM from the Graduate Management Admissions Council
evidence of a successfully completed University level statistics course
    evidence of English language proficiency
    a non-refundable application processing fee.

We understand that some of you may have chosen other programs since the time you asked to be on this list. We would appreciate hearing back from you on whether or not you are interested in continuing to be updated on our DBA. It would be wonderful if you could reply to Shannon LaRose [email protected] with either "Yes, I'm interested" or "No, Please remove" in the subject line of your reply message. For those of you wishing to remain on this list, I will email you an application booklet, complete course descriptions, program schedule and other related information on the program within the next two weeks.

Thank you, and should you have any questions on this or issues related to our new Doctorate program, please do not hesitate to ask.

...a significant price tag is attached to that DBA .. $50k to finance out of your own pocket is a huge step, one I wouldn't be willing to take... but for people who are subsidized by their employer it should be much more doable.
