There has always been a lot of debate between residential and online doctoral programs, profit and non-profit and the merits of each. This article appeared today in the Louisville Courier Journal regarding a Ph.D given to someone who was enrolled only one semester at the University of Louisville. Bottom line, I think regardless of the institution, there needs to be some strict oversight by the University conferring the degree.

Wow! Thanks for sharing, I am looking for that opportunity after earning my Master. Just one semester for a Ph.D degree it is the first in history except diploma mills.

I was sick when I read this, as U of L is our local state university and many of my colleagues at Sullivan University, Louisville Technical Institute and Spencerian College have degrees from U of L. It is sad how unethical behavior by so few can tarnish an entire institution and so many people affiliated with it.
