    Hello,
I'm planning on going on to get my Masters and into an (I refuse to settle for anything less) APA-approved Psy.D program. and going into counseling psychology after this, just so you know. I was wondering how important it is for me to go to an APA approved program and if that will enhance my chances of getting a good internship, as well as a job, afterwards?

    Thanks,
    Rowena

You do not require an APA-approved undergraduate degree to be accepted into an APA-approved graduate or doctorate degree. Each jurisdiction has its own regulations regarding counseling so be sure to check with the appropriate regulatory or professional body.

Have you already completed an undergraduate degree?

First of all there's no such thing as an APA accredited Bachelors degree program so stop worrying about it.

Second, if you pull top grades and ace your GRE/MAT exams then you'll go to whatever school you want. Go to the best school that you can afford. In most states you don't need to have graduated from an APA accredited doctoral program in order to become licensed.

Also keep in mind that many Psy.D. programs require only a Bachelor's degree for admission; a Master's degree certainly won't hurt, but it's not required.
