It's official. I have enrolled in Andrew Jackson University's BA in Communications program. I'm waiting to receive my student handbook and a list of the books I'll need for my first three courses. I'm looking forward to it!
Yes, all of my PFC credits have transferred, and AJU even worked up a degree completion plan which takes into account the PFC courses I'm currently working on. The plan indicates "pending" for the PFC courses I haven't yet completed.
Best of luck in your new program! I've enjoyed reading your experiences and am looking forward to the day when we see your "I'm finished!" posting.
Thanks. I'm looking forward to posting the "I'm Finished!" post, too! I feel like I have been working on my undergad degree forever, but I'm confident I will finally have it a year from now. After that, it's on to either an MBA or an MS in Marketing...I haven't really decided. I have purchased most of the books for my first three courses. When they arrive in the mail things will really begin.
I'm enrolled in the AJU MBA (Marketing) and am really enjoying it. I took a couple of Penn Foster ACE approved classes to fulfill undergrad requirements for my business degree from Excelsior and wanted to share the following with you. The format of the course layout seems very similar to PF, which I really like. The modules are self paced, so a highly motivated individual can progress rapidly if time permits. I think you will find this to be a very smooth transition for you.
I noticed that the layout of the AJU Campus is similar to the PFC student portal. It's actually very nice and after reading the student handbook I'm more pleased than ever about going with AJU, especially for the price. You just can't beat it. The textbooks I have ordered for my first few classes are all similar to the texts I have used for PFC, except they are not included with the course. Still, I have found some great bargains on Half.com and I will be renting one of the textbooks I need from one of the textbook rental services I found online. It's a much better option to purchasing, and it will save me about 60 percent. I have been looking at that MBA in Marketing from AJU. I'm giving serious thought to picking that up and perhaps getting another masters in communications or a graduate certificate in public relations elsewhere.
It's good to see you are shopping for deals! Later this year, we are rolling out e-book options for many of our courses that will significantly lower textbook costs for AJU students.
That sounds like a good deal. All I'll need to carry is a laptop! Although I don't start my studies until Sept. 29th, I've been very impressed with the responsiveness of the school and all the information they have emailed me so far.
The courses are self-paced? I thought they had a hard deadline. This is so tempting to do but frankly, after reading their explanation of how this works I still couldn't figure out how much it would cost me and this one I'd have to pay for out of pocket. Plus if the courses have an 8 week and out deadline I don't think I could handle that at this time. If was like PF and Ashworth (no limit on individual courses but a time limit in which to finish the entire program) I might jump on this depending on the total cost.
The courses are 16 weeks long, but you can work at your own pace and finish them faster if you wish. If you finish all of your courses early, you can begin the next semester. The maximum length of time you have to complete each course is 16 weeks. My first semester begins September 29 and ends in January. I liked the self-paced nature of Penn Foster College, but to be honest it was/is too easy for me to procrastinate without a hard deadline. I think this system will work well for me, but of course everyone is different.
You are so right about the procrastination part. I did that myself a few times. Unfortunately, my program at Aspen is kicking my ass right now and I'm afraid to take on AJU at the same time. Perhaps when I'm finished this deal will still be happening. Good luck with your program Terry. Let us know how you like the courses and delivery of them.
