Russell Morris (a pastor and, until very recently, a regular on this board) is doing his Ph.D. in practical theology through GST/Potch; I've lost his e-mail address, but he probably still monitors this board from time to time, and might see your request.

The school is definitely accredited, as it comprises a part of South Africa's public university system; Potchefstroom is also the alma mater of F.W. De Klerk, and awarded Cornelius Van Til his honorary Th.D.

    Good luck!

    Cheers,

  4. Potchefstroom is one of South Africa's leading universities. Whether or not it is formally "accredited" is a different question. South Africa established the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) in 1995, and this organization is establishing an eight-level National Qualifications Framework. Whether or not the NQF will be relevant or useful remains to be seen. I am a skeptic.

Incidentally, the "Pot" in Potchefstroom comes from my namesake, Andries Hendrik Potgieter, who was a 19th century Voortrekker leader.

Greenwich School of Theology is a satellite school of Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education. GST's focus is theology. I don't see how clinical psychotherapy relates to that directly, unless it is in a practical theology area.

Potchefstroom is a residential, bricks and mortar, 132 year old university, with ties to the Dutch Reformed Church in SA. As far as accreditation goes, it is a real school. Its degrees are recognized throughout the world.

The accreditation (equivalent of) question has already been answered in the affirmative.

The only way to know about the other is to directly ask them. Give them your background and explain what you intend to focus on. As someone else said it may be possible to research in the area of Practical Theology (Christian Psychotherapy). With research doctorates it appears to be a matter of finding someone within the department who is qualified in that area and willing to become your faculty promoter. I would e-mail GST & ask.

Please let us know what you find out & good luck my fellow Canuck!
