I am tempted to register for courses in the BEE online http://le.suny.edu/bee/.
Other than the detraction of the cost, I cannot find anybody who is in this course and can provide feedback on personal experience with this method of delivery. I have googled forums, but all to no avail. Maybe nobody is enrolled in it? Does anybody know anyone who has been registered and completed classes in this course? It would be good to hear about their experiences.

Yes, for a non-resident, the tuition fees are horrendous, but for me there are two big attractors:
    1. I can take courses during my summer semester break so no time wasted wallowing on the beach; there are no alternative similar courses online.
    2. It's entirely online so no attendance for lab courses required and all exams are online as well. Perfect. I do well in this type of environment.
    3. An efficient way of completing my electrical degree started a long time
    ago.

But before I shell out my $$ I would want to know what I am getting myself into.

Looks real good. Questions?......Do you think that the lab is an important part of the area of study? or Do you feel that you have accomplished that area of study with your work?

I am not an engineer, but having worked in the field for 30 years, I have found that the hands on experience is worth its weight in gold. I have worked with many book smart engineers that had trouble using simple test equipment.

The online method of study looks good. The cost is a bit high. Have you looked at other schools? or Does this school have what you are looking for?
ie. no labs and all online?

    Thanks, Jim

I have no personal experience with this, so I can't answer the original question.

This is interesting (it's from the BEE Faq):

Without any labs? My understanding is that ABET has been very reluctant to accredit undergraduate engineering programs that don't have a laboratory component. (Some DL programs concentrate the labs into short residencies.)

If SUNY has finally junked the engineering labs once and for all, and if ABET does sign off on it, then that would be a pretty dramatic change in American undergraduate engineering education policy.

I have no knowledge of ABET requirements but I note that there are two lab courses listed on the BEE site.

To say that there are no lab requirements is not correct. Each course does have laboratory requirements, but these are done either by simulation software or with some equipment which the students has to purchase. So it's not all software but definitely hands on as well.

Some medical schools have apparently started using simulation software and hardware systems to complement some of the standard practical skills.
