I'm posting this for a friend of mine who just left the US Army after serving two tours in the Middle East. She's now happily married and pregnant and wants to become a teacher in California. She has a BA in biology from UC, Davis. She has no previous teacher education courses. What's the best on-line route she should take to get, or at least start, a California teaching credential? Thanks in advance.
Western Governors University offers a pathway to teacher certification. The institution is accredited by NCATE. Teacher Licensure requirements vary by state. Financial aid for military veterans is available.
Hi warguns - Pass this on to your friend. Perhaps it will answer some of her questions. http://www.cde.ca.gov/pd/bt/
CalStateTEACH CalStateTEACH, which is an online teacher education/certification program offered by the California State University System, may be a viable option for your friend. From the website: "CalStateTEACH is a non-traditional program that offers both a student teaching and an intern program for qualified candidates interested in earning their credential without attending traditional college classes. Instead, the curriculum is delivered online." http://www.calstateteach.net/
