As a new student at ELLIS COLLEGE of NYIT, I was hit with a VERY troubling notice today!

ELLIS COLLEGE OF NYIT will be dissolved and absorbed into ELLIS UNIVERSITY of Chicago.

The regionally accredited Ellis University is Born as of AUG 21, 2008

    Here is the Press Release;

As far as currently enrolled students: We can go with EU or get our degree from NYIT. I wholeheartedly prefer the latter, NYIT all the way!

I guess I will now be a NYIT student! Lucky me that I signed up when I did.

I hope everything goes well and they do not jack up the tuitions as result of this merge.

This "learning Group" corp has changed names a few times ahhhggrr!!

I don't believe that the tuition will go up, for military anyway, there is too much money to be made off of us.

I'm just glad that I get to stay with NYIT!!

This corporation needs to settle down and stay put! Too many changes like this will scare people away from them. :(

This sounds like it is a similar situation as when Touro University International split from Touro College and became a separate free-standing entity after receiving WASC accreditation.

I liked Ellis of NYIT just fine. The only reason I could see them doing this is because of M-O-N-E-Y.

NYIT has to be getting money from this partnership and now the parent company wants it for themselves.

IMHO NYIT gave ELLIS credibility. When ELLIS first appeared I would have went with them because of the NYIT name BUT then it cost too much. Why would I go to ELLIS when I could go to another B&M college with a great DL program (I require going to a B&M school in DL program for my online education needs). So I went with the other college.

Lot's of ELLIS students are blogging like mad about this in the Ellis Student Blogs, and they don't like this one bit.

    However, the deed is done..

Yet another DL school that couldn't leave well enough alone and changed their name to something stupid and/or generic.

The Ellis/NYIT people who are mad should vote with their feet and checkbooks.

Didn't Ellis College of the New York Institute of Technology result from a merger between RA New York Institute of Technology and DETC-accredited Cardean University? Or something like that?

Exactly. Eills University is both DETC and regionally accredited.

I really like the look of their programs, but they are expensive.

Yes that is correct. When they formed that partnership Ellis took off like a rocket.

David Harpool (former president of EC) said the reason they formed EU was to offer more Masters programs and maybe a doctorate program as well. It will be based in Chicago as well.

I'm not feeling the unknown newly formed University for my future degree plans.

I would love to post the "students letter PDF" we got on the 21st. How would one do that? It gives a little insight into this change.

The money makers find this "growth" exciting, not the students. The Ellis College student blogging system makes this very clear.

Not a good move for the students IMHO. NYIT agreed to take us and give degrees to the students currently enrolled in a program. So we will be NYIT Alums w/o the Ellis.

    Why do I picture this being Ellis University, with the split from NYIT coming at about the 0:30 mark;

I'd be interested to see that; is it a public site?

    The University or the College?

They made Ellis of NYIT VERY affordable for military students. I could not have been happier when I got the word they lowered tuition fo us to $250.00 a credit.

Two weeks later I get the word Ellis of NYIT is being absorbed into EU and NYIT proper. What a WELCOME!!

BRUCE, no the student Blogs can only be accessed from the student dashboard.

As far as the Youtube video shown above, can you say GODZILLA MOVIE! And I hope not, for the sake of the people that transfer there. EC heads blew a good thing most online colleges would have given their right arm to get; A partnership with a school like NYIT. Foolish..

Both. Cardean University (DETC accredited) was absorbed by Ellis NYIT, which then applied for DETC accreditation.

I'm glad the school is affordable for active-duty military, but that doesn't help me (military veteran). The school is quite expensive.

Ellis University is separated from NYIT, they the institution is accredited by both NA and RA. Is there any reason, they don't have an .EDU domain name? Even though Canyon College has one.

They have a good telecommunications program. In many ways I wish I went there over Mt Sierra College (RA over NA) but I was not thinking at the time and was worried they would not take any of my NA trans. Credit from ITT towards their bachelors.

    FirstMode4C,

It is the past, hehehehe. You should go to SMU with me for the Master of Science in Telecommunication Management. I have a question, do you see the differences in your employer with your ETA certification? I believe I followed you, and got it by converting CompTIA certs by paying some fee. It seems that all the employers I had been with, didn't give a rash arss about these certifications. Now, I just removed it 'cause I need space. Any interesting experince you have with those ETA certification?

No, have not really seen any benefit to them other than the fact that it just adds more under my training and certification section on my resume.

If I had a CCNA, CCNP, etc, etc, I would not even list them.

I know that if I get cisco certified it can help in my environment, a telecommunications NOC, that is what I am working on now (along with a million other things).

Are you attending SMU through distance education? Did not know they had one.

I am actually wanting an on campus experience right now and also I have an NA degree so SMU would not take me anyways.

    keller will work though!

That was another strange thing, I too noticed the .COM at the end of EU's web address. IT"S A BUSINESS NOT A SCHOOL!!!

Ellis College is on NYITs servers, thus that one has the old .EDU extension.

    http://ellis.nyit.edu/ <-- I'll take it! :)

Unfortunately, just about anybody can get a .edu domain name, so that is not an indication of quality or legitimacy, as in the case of Canyon College.
