I notice the media is starting to mention and acknowledge regional and national accreditation. This is a good sign of NA accreditation evolution, and needs to continue. Road blocks like THECB fiasco have been broken down, and thus reduces or even eliminates mention of crappy incorrect law in general, and in the media. Yes, I am gloating. :)

Sorry, I am way off track here. Once again, I am glad to hear all the "Recognized accreditors" mentioned in this article.

I Agree, well said. The fact they did not focus on distant learning but the accreditation of a school makes me very happy as well.

Maybe, just maybe, they're starting to get it!!

Blah. Fox could have done better than painting the title of the article with a broad brush. This article was good PR for Canyon College.

"Karen Solomon, associate director of accreditation at the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, a reputable accrediting agency, said that nationally accredited schools tend to have more specialized, practical-oriented programs than regionally accredited ones.

"The only difference is that nationally accredited schools may or may not have the rigor of general education expectation, because they're based more on a specific career field or vocation," said Solomon."

    - The majority of regionally accredited community colleges have practical career specific degree programs.

Seeing national accreditation mentioned in the same breath as regional accreditation, and an explanation of the difference between the two, is something you don't see often in a mainstream news article.

What surprised me the most was the mention that Canyon College actually has courses, and the student said they "worked hard" on them. At least they are doing coursework, rather than simply buying a piece of paper and doing no work at all. Now if Canyon would dump the bogus accreditor and seek proper accreditation...

I found that interesting as well. I wonder what hard work consists of at Canyon College - for a MSN? My mother recently completed her MSN and she was crazy busy. I find it funny that she was teaching too. :p

I had never heard of this college before but it sounds like a degree mill to me?

    What is with that accreditation?
    * The Association for Innovation in Distance Education (AIDE)*
    * The American Naturopathic Medical Accreditation Board (ANMAB)**

And I have never seen SO MANY SCHOOLS OF... in one place! They should have just put SCHOOL OF EVERYTHING and left it at that, because without that listing of SCHOOLS OF the main page would be empty.

It looks hokey to me, I can't believe people can't see that.
