Candidates for Masters dissertations are admitted subject to the availability of a suitable supervisor.

    Admission requirements:
Faculty Rules FM3, FDA1-FDA6 and University General Rules apply. Applicants must have the required academic background and submit an acceptable research proposal for which supervision is available. Research degrees are encouraged where the field of research is clearly defined, the student wishes to concentrate on a specific research topic and has demonstrated the ability to do so.

    Degree structure:
Examination is by dissertation/thesis alone. A Masters thesis should not exceed 50,000 words in length.

Applications to our dissertation only programs require an application to the department in the form of a proposal. This would need to be reviewed by an internal selection committee to determine whether your topic is in line with the department's research interests & whether we have a staff member with the expertise to supervise it.

If you wish to apply then please contact the UCT Admissions office in the first instance and then submit a proposal at to the department for consideration. Registration for dissertation degrees need to be finalized by before the 1st May of the first year of registration. Staff research areas can be viewed of the CFMS website - http://www.cfms.uct.ac.za/

Maybe it's just me, but this school doesn't seem very DL friendly. "Our supervisor decides how the program is delivered" isn't much of an answer.

Actually, I received a lot more info. Only posted the above small section from an email.

Also, I've been in contact with a supervisor and he has agreed to work with me. He and others at the school have been quick to answer questions and respond to emails.
