Anybody in this forum have any bad experiences selling back textbooks to collegebooksdirect.com site or any sites? This is my first time selling my textbooks online. I figure I sell all my textbooks at once than sell them one by one individually.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    An unprofitable venture

I haven't dealt with that particular company, but it's been my experience that selling-back books is an unprofitable venture because you'll get pennies on the dollar. Plus the the shipping cost may be more than what you can get in the buyback paycheck. On the other hand, it's a buyers market for students who know how to shop the internet because it's possible to buy expensive textbooks for pennies on the dollar. ;)

If you have a stack of books that are "just sitting around," you should go to a book buyback location (try Abe books ) and enter in all the ISBNs just to see WHICH books they're even interested in! For every 10 books on your shelf, they might only be willing to pay pennies on the dollar for 3 of them -- and you'll simply have to donate the rest of them to the landfill or to someone who is willing to take them off your hands. LOL

I think that m.a. is right. You might be better off in the long run by donating them to some local library and taking the tax deduction.

That's legal, isn't it? What value can you place on the books?

I've always had luck selling my textbooks on Amazon...on average, I come out much much better than reselling them to a local bookstore.

The Abe books buyback is pretty good if the books are fairly recent. I resold a book and got more than if I would have sold it on ebay myself. I got about 65% of what I paid for the book new. Abe books makes it very easy, and will pay for your shipping (they have you print out a shipping label for each book you sell back).

I've sold a few, donated WAY more but didn't claim the deduction because I didn't think about that (DOH!!!).

Some textbooks you can get a lot for. For example my dang near $200 Business Law textbook fetched a handsome little buyback price as did my finance books and a few others. However by and large though the textbook racket is rigged in such a way as to cause an oil executive blush.

I've had OUTSTANDING success selling my used textbooks on Amazon.com. It is the shiznit for buying and selling used books. For some classes I'll buy my textbook used from Amazon.com, use it for the class, and then turn around and sell it used on Amazon.com. Using this technique, that $150 textbook ends up costing me pennies on the dollar.

I use half.com for selling all of my textbooks that I no longer need. I've been using it for years. It was always a better tool than the campus bookstore. In fact, it's like cutting out the middle man, granted the website does get its cut from the sale price.

There have been a number of occasions I've purchased a book, completed the course, and then sold the book for a profit. That's always nice!

Plus, if you are an ebay user, the half.com feedback can help boost your status on ebay.

    Hello everyone!

I agree with using Amazon. I used to use eBay, but Amazon was so much easier--just click and name a price! I just sold back my last two books that I used to finish my Bachelor's of Science.

    Sorry, I'm just too happy.

    Amazon, ftw.

I've used valore books in the past. The cool thing is that they pay for the shipping. However, recently they haven't been buying back a lot of my books. It's probably due to the low demand in my subject area. Here's the link, you might have luck. http://www.valorebooks.com
