I'm thinking about taking a bible correspondence course from the Moody Bible Institute. Specifically, I'm looking at their Scofield Certificate:

Do you know anything about the Scofield bible? If so, can you please elaborate?

This particular correspondence course was first introduced by the Moody Bible Institute in 1901 -- long before the advent of online education. It's a go-at-your-own-pace correspondence program and it doesn't count for college credit (it's for continuing education credits or CEUs for short).

I'm going crazy not studying the bible and this will invigorate my spiritual life.

From a doctrinal perspective, what are your thoughts about this particular program? Is it sound?

I'm definitely not impressed with the MBI website, but hopefully their correspondence coursework will overshadow the deficiencies in their user-unfriendly website!

The Scofield Bible first came out in 1909. It was a King James Bible with notes added to help the reader understand the events of the Bible in proper context. It was long been a standard excepted by most Christians. I have used it with no problems.

The Scofield course has been around for many years, way before distance education was well known. Then, it was called "correspondence school." My old mentor (deceased) and pastor of my past, practically swore by this course. He recommended it to most aspiring leaders. The Scofield Reference Bible is the standard of excellent Dispensational and Premillenial scholarship. Contributors who revised it came from Dallas Theological Seminary, Grace Theological Seminary, Talbot Theological Seminary, etc. Maybe even Moody also.

I believe there are others such as Liberty U. who has an institute and Emmaus Bible Institute.

The Scofield Bible is also dispensational. I seem to recall an updated version called "New Scofield" or something like that.

    Thanks, BlackBird.

Looks like we were posting at the same time.

Steve Levicoff has always spoken very highly of Moody, which IMO is about as good an endorsement you can get in these parts.

True. I was really disappointed when they ceased publishing Moody Monthly magazine. I still enjoy their books.

I completed the course and I highly recommend it. The really great news is that many years have passed and the price is still the same! You won't find a better deal on a bible study course with the depth of this one.

Can you supply a link to it? I've looked everywhere on Moody's website and can't find the Scofield correspondence course. Moody still does the old-fashioned correspondence courses from what I was told when I contacted them via phone recently on another matter. This course came highly recommended by my pastor and also the asst. pastor (who both took it) when I first came to the Lord.

As I recall, it uses a 6-volume set of text books. There are various places online to get the set of text books, but they are rather pricey. I could swing it, but don't know if they're intended to be used w/o the help of an instructor.

I guess I can't edit my own posts yet, or perhaps the editing time limit is very short, so I'm posting this as a reply. Closest I can find is a CEU Scofield Certificate which includes courses I'm not interested in at this time. Apparently they use a 3-volume version of the Scofield course. I've seen the 3-volume version elsewhere, but the version of the Scofield Bible Study course I remember used a 6-volume set. https://www.moody.edu/online/mbidl/continuing-education/personal-enrichment/
