I've never seen any discussion on the external program offered by Columbia Union College. Having taken 24 undergraduate credits from them, I'll comment! The correspondence courses are the most rigorous academic classes I've ever taken. However, this could be due to the types of classes I took: college algebra, quantitative methods, statistics, ect.)[/I]. An example of the intensity of the academic rigor is a senior level class called "Charles Dickens and Mark Twain." Six good-sized novels are issued and comprehensive reports must be written about each of them (selected themes must be studied, as outlined by the syllabus). Additionally, a master report must be completed, which discusses a common theme throughout all six novels. If you're a slow reader (as I am), it is quite intense!!! Exams are proctored. The student is given a year to complete each course. Regardless of the academic intensity, the one-year time limit is a great incentive.
Is this the Columbia Union College in the Washington, DC area? If it is, this is a regionally accredited school, owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The same denomination that operates (and have done so for over 100 years) schools like Loma Linda University (California) and Andrews University (Michigan). Granted, these are all traditional schools with Loma Linda's major focus being its relatively higly respected School of Medicine. ------------------ David
