How do the big 3 compute your GPA? if you transfer 119 credits from other RA schools ACE credits, CLEP, DANTES etc only one credit is going to make your GPA? or when you transfer you also transfer your GPA? what GPA is assigned for CLEP and DANTES examinations?

    thanks

Excelsior figures your previous RA college grades that you transfer into your GPA

In regards to CLEP, TECEP, or ACE credit (such as Penn Foster) they all come in as Pass or Fail with no effect on GPA.

DANTES graded on the 44-80 scale before the change to the new format (which happened during the last few months) were awarded letter grades from A to C and figured into your GPA. Now they are on the fence and are not giving letter grades, however they may revert to letter grades once again after they collect more info from the new grading scale.

Excelsior (ECE) tests are letter graded between A to C and figured into your GPA. Excelsior's official transcript shows two GPA figures cummulative GPA and Excelsior GPA

Excelsior will not accept or figure F's into the GPA when transferring in credit. So in the event someone had an F in Community college it won't show up on the final transcript or affect their GPA.

Thomas Edison does not give letter grades for CLEP, DANTES, TECEP's Prior Learning Assesments or Ace Credit and according to recent sources, the official transcript contains no GPA mention at all. An official GPA has to be requested.

Thomas Edison will not accept or figure F's into the GPA when transferring in credit. So in the event someone had an F in Community college it won't show up on the final transcript or affect their GPA.

    Charter Oak?

I think most of this is accurate:D

In my case (Excelsior Business degree), I took a Technical Math class and Information Literacy from Penn Foster which is NA and the courses were ACE approved. Excelsior treated them as ACE credit and transferred them in as Pass Fail.

I don't know the definitive answer, but I'm inclined to think that they handle all NA like the ACE credits as Pass or Fail.

Any NA courses that are ACE approved will be accepted by all of the Big 3. So in the case of Penn Foster, they have a lot of courses that fall under that category. As far as straight NA course transfer, I'll leave it to someone else to answer.

I just graduated from TESC. They DO calculate a GPA based on credits that have been transferred in. They do not include ACE or CLEP exams in the calculation.

Just to clarify in my head, how does TESC count the FEMA courses? I know they don't require upper level courses per se but so many courses have to come from a 4 year university. Do the FEMA courses meet that requirement?

After fall semester, my son will have 104 credits. I think 47 of those credits are 100 level classes. The rest are 200 level classes. However, 27 credits are from a 4 year university. He's been accepted into TESC, in spite of the age requirement, and we're waiting on his transcript evaluation. His last transcript, with summer classes, was mailed to them 7/25.

I'm also waiting on my transcript evaluation but there was a delay due to insufficient information in getting that to them. The transcript request just got mailed off to the college I graduated from. I had 145 credits back 1990-1993 (?) along with the 25 FEMA credits I did.

    No.

I would wait until Thomas Edison State College completes there evaluation to see where your son stands w.r.t. remaining credit hours and their distribution.

I can't say for sure, but I am 99.9% sure that TESC views FEMA credit as coming from a 2-year school. They are not calculated in the GPA.

Thanks, I think. Although it's not the answer I wanted to hear. lol It sounds like my FEMA courses won't do me much good, since I don't have ANY classes from a 4 year university. :(

Once we get our evaluations back, I'm sure I'll be posting for advice. I thought you did a great job, sentinel, of breaking down the options for another poster on another thread.

Have you checked the transfer policy of Charter Oak State College and Excelsior College? While both require upper-level (300 or 400 series) credit hours they might be more lenient concerning the number of credit hours accepted from 2-year institutions. A quick email to these schools could open other options.

Depending upon your future educational goals you might be able to enroll in a graduate degree on the basis of your current degree and the excess credit hours which combined total 145, plus the 25 credit hours of FEMA courses. I think Northcentral University only requires a bachelor degree or 120 credit hours; you might want to enquire. Did you earn an associate or bachelor degree in 1993; by the sounds of your messages it was an associate degree.

It was an AS in Nursing. Gosh, I don't even know when I went to school! I just looked at my transcript and I graduated in 1989.

I'm almost ashamed to admit this, with all the achiever's here, but I have no interest in going beyond my bachelors. The only reason I'm interested in that is so I can get a job with the state in the foster care system. They don't care what my bachelors is in as long as I have one. I guess being foster parents is also a plus although I won't be able to do both.

I'm just tired of not being able to do much for the kids as a foster parent. We had a child with older siblings recently reunified with their mom, who has been in the system for over 15 years in spite of the GAL's not recommending it. He had been with us from birth until 2 years old. We're still grieving.
