Besides Capella and Walden, are there any universities that provide a DL PhD. in Education? Thank you.

    Many...many.

Someone has mentioned the very affordable U of Nebraska. Also check out http://www.bakersguide.com
When you get there choose doctoral prgrams and then hit the link for comprehensive doctoral programs (ie more than just Christian). He has several, all of which are RA (eg ORU, Regents, University of Sarasota).

There are a number that do so. Other choices are Nova Southeastern University, Australian Catholic University, University of South Africa, the Union Institute, Pepperdine University (Ed. Tech.), as well as others in sub-fields in education.

    Hi Richard,
I don't know where you live, but if you live in an area where the schools are accredited by SACS be aware that this body does not look favorably on DL degrees at any level. Howard.

Really, then why do the following schools, accredited by SACS, offer degrees(all or in part) through DL?
    University of Florida
    Liberty University
    Nova Southeastern University
    Regent University
    University of Sarasota(now Argosy University)
    Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
    Texas A&M University
    Tulane University

    Hi Samc79,
The schools offer distance learning courses because there is money in them. Anyone who believes schools are formed for educational purposes are somewhat naive. But if you doubt that DL degrees are not looked upon with favor in the hiring process of education within the states of Alabama and Mississippi call some of the local boards of education and ask their opinion. I think you will be surprised at the answer. The reason: The education system within America is corrupt and simply does not want to move into the 21st century so they lean toward the state sponsored schools where the teachers are taught the same principles as they were 20/30 years ago and will move into the classrooms and not make waves. Down with the NEA, all boards of education and the education departments of all colleges and universities. When you have some time to spare read "The Closing of the American Mind." Sorry, don't know the author. Howard.

Allan Bloom, whose own mind was very much closed.

I wonder what Bloom would have thought about Distance Education today, if he were still with us. In many ways he was such a traditionalist...

SACS is fairly open in accrediting the schools, however, the schools that are accredited by SACS often discriminate against the students of their own schools when it comes to teaching or professoral positions. Many school systems in AL do not like to employ teaches with DL degrees. There should be some incentive for schools to not differientate between traditional and DL. I think many schools are scared for their financial well being if DL becomes widely accepted. Thanks for remembing Broom, now I don't have to dig out the book. H.

    Hi Howard,

I live in Denver; however, the majority of my current workload is via DL. Additional thoughts welcomed.

Ah, Denver --- there is a little outdoor bar just down from the Hyatt --- lovely this time of the year......

With DL the cavet is to make sure in the end that the degree will get you where you want to be. Unfortunately, after 25 to 30K I found that it was not exactly what I needed. I am much better with the DL PhD in Professional Counseling than without -- if just for the prestige -- but my cost conscious time referenced approach has bitten me in the butt. Howard.
