    Hello All,

After completing my MBA online through Liberty University, I accepted a job with the FDIC in 2006. Now after 2 years of working for the government, my goals and career aspirations have changed. I would like to pursue a PHD in Business, Accounting, or Finance from a major school.

My first step is taking the GMAT. Liberty did not require the GMAT as enterance into their MBA program. Most of the PHD programs that I've looked into require a GMAT score of 650+. I believe a score of over 650 is close to the 90-95 percentile. Does anyone who has taken the GMAT have any suggestions regarding study materials or study time before taking the test?

    Thanks for your help,

    Matt

    I would strongly suggest http://www.gmaxonline.com/

I used their product in 2004 and could get more than 600.

I did suggest to one of my co-worker, he likes it.

There are better resources for information on the GMAT than this board, I would recommend you spend some time over at the beat the GMAT forums. Lots of folks over there with 700+ scores. Do what ever it is they are doing to get those scores. Good luck.

    Also, a score of 650 is now only the 82nd percentile. 690 - 720 is the 90 - 95 percentile. Source here.

Remember, concentrate particularly on the Quant section, as the graduate school wants to see you have the quantitive horsepower to handle the program. Also notice the the scores in Quant versus Verbal:
    Quant 95% = 50
    Verbal 95% = 42

So study extra hard for the Quant, unless you are naturally gifted in that area.

What school you're aiming for? I don't think NCU, and Capella needs GMAT.

You choice mostly likely depends on your budget and how much time you have before taking the exam. Here are some possibilities:

    1. Kaplan: http://www.kaptest.com/gmat
    2. Manhattan review: http://www.manhattanreview.com
    3. 800 Score: http://www.800score.com/gmat-home.html
    4. Princeton review: http://www.princetonreview.com
    5. Veritas Prep: http://www.veritasprep.com

I used Manhattan review for a weekend course and the focus was trying to get a high score (650+). However, I did not end up taking the GMAT because it was not required for my MBA program.

There are some free test preparation materials on the GMAC website. I would recommend downloading the GMATPrep software.

And the information bulletin about the GMAT.

I have heared really good things about www.scorechase.com. They seem to provide (cheap) private tutoring and so on.

Btw did you guys read the Businessweek article about GMAT "dumps"?
"The scandal erupted June 23, when the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) disclosed it had won a legal judgment against the Scoretop site (BusinessWeek.com, 6/23/08) in federal district court in Virginia. GMAC had accused Scoretop of copyright infringement, saying the site had published "live" GMAT questions and other copyrighted material. "
