I received an email from Andrew Jackson University proposing a new system of financing college tuition. If you enroll through something called pupilcity you can supposedly lower the costs of completing your degree. Is this legitimate? I am naturally skeptical about such things. Does anyone know anything about this? This is from the AJU website: "Starting this week, Andrew Jackson University is testing a new method of financing a college education. We will be utilizing the private market with 21st century marketing techniques to completely eliminate out-of-pocket tuition for our students. To take advantage of this new and unique opportunity, students need only to apply to Andrew Jackson University through one of our marketing partner sites. Applying through a partner site makes the applicant eligible for a 100% tuition sponsorship for their entire program at AJU. Once enrolled, the student will only need to pay a per-semester student fee, a per-course proctoring fee, and for textbooks. The net effect of this program is that a student can reduce out of pocket expenses by 50% or more while studying at AJU. To date, AJU has entered into two sponsor partnerships. The first is with an up-and-coming Social Learning Network called PupilCity (www.pupilcity.com); the second is with a local Alabama magazine, Birmingham Parent."
Why don't they just make arrangements with the government to offer federal student aid? That should give students more options and should attract more enrollees whose employers can't pay for the tuition or whose credit records make things difficult with private lenders... (This reminds me of the "mistake" Northcentral did when the university decided to end federal student aid.)
The reason AJU does not do this is because AJU permits students a large amount of flexibility in completing coursework - they are not on a fixed semester/quarter schedule. Disclaimer - I am an adjunct for AJU (although I am taking the summer off from teaching at AJU). Shawn

While other universities are raising tuition, we are eliminating it.
