I've been thinking about taking the Oxford Brookes University distance learning courses to get my degree. Namely the BA (Hons) Theology and Religion by Distance Learning and perhaps later going on to
MA in Practical and Contextual Theology
. The reason I would do so (other than it is a field that interests me) is so that I could go on and teach college. Most likely 2 year, but I would like to keep the door open for 4 year as well. (no particular college in mind) I have read conflicting information as to what is required to teach college. Some say a degree higher than the one you are teaching. Some say other things are required.

(Why OBU? My location for one. It puts other colleges too far out of reach. Why OBU vs other online universities/colleges. Price 99%, subject/study options 1% and price another 25%. ;) )

I am/was about to throw down but started questioning myself on the whole prospect. If I was correct (about the requirements on average). If it would be workable (time and money involved). And half a dozen other things. Anyhow I am standing on the edge, about ready to jump, but am thinking about just walking away. Looking for suggestions/advice.

I don't know anything about this school. Are they considered RA equivalent? Are they GAAP? What are the costs for the BA program? What do you want to teach?

I'd say don't walk away. At least not yet. I know that OBU has a good enough reputation but do you have any data that indicates that you'll be able to actually get the job you want if you go ahead and earn the degree(s) you've mentioned? There're a lot of people with Bachelors degrees driving cabs.

There're a lot of people with Bachelors degrees driving cabs. I'm a big fan of higher education. I believe it's worth the time and the money regardless of all the employment nonsense. However, I know that we all live in the real world (at least I try to, most of the time).

There's one thing that I can almost certainly guarantee, if you never earn the degree you'll never get the job. Push forward.
