I know that Heriot-Watt is spoken of highly on this board. Does anyone have any knowledge, or at least an opinion, as to how the Heriot-Watt MBA would be viewed in the United States in terms of being able to teach? I imagine the credential would be received well if the HW degree was earned on campus, but not via self study. Thoughts?

Well, they're international GAAP-equivalent. And how would your prospective chair know whether you did the program online or onground if you didn't tell them yourself?

For 8 years I was involved in marketing the Heriot-Watt distance MBA in the US and Canada (1991-1999). Early on, I made contact with thirty well known US and Canadian universities (Ivy League, Stanford, Chicago, McGill, etc.) to ask if that degree would be acceptable for hiring or entrance to doctoral programs. Re hiring, 100% said yes. The Univ. of Chicago charmingly wrote that if it is good enough for the Queen of England (i.e., Royal Charter), it is good enough for them.

For entrance to doctoral programs, roughly a third, as I recall, said that they do not accept any MBA for this purpose, since they regard it as either a professional and/or a terminal degree. The rest said it was acceptable.

It may be a clue if you earned the degree while working in the US ;)

I've seen few people teaching at Devry with this credential so it should be OK for most of the accredited schools. I think that in the teaching business is more timing than anything else, for example if you are a CPA with an MBA you are in demand.

I applied for an adjunct position at my local CC. They didn't care if my degree was on-campus or not, only if I had 18 credits in a single subject. Most MBAs do not give you this.

Did you get the job? Do you think most schools are indifferent as to whether the degree was earned online or on campus?

On the other hand, even if most MBAs have a concentration that is a bit shy of the 18 hour rule, still it is possible at many programs to pick up a few hours in excess of the minimum requirements for graduation in order to turn that 12-hour concentration into 18 hours. Or one could take a few "loose credits" elsewhere in order to make up the difference.

They already slotted someone else to teach the class by the time I applied. However, they said they would add me to the pool. Never heard anything back since. I think if the school has a B&M presence, they probably would not care if it was online or not. IMHO.
