    Hey everyone,

I've been kind of quiet around here lately...been busy with work and school.

Just wanted to stop by and let everyone know that I finished up the first year of my doctoral program. I took 15 hours during the Fall, Spring and Summer semester and made A's in all classes.

Out of the five classes, four were excellent and one was average. The average course, a required course for the Master's in IS, was "Programming for E-Commerce"...not a bad topic but not the greatest instructor. I'm giving the instructor the benefit of the doubt as he's new to teaching so perhaps he'll get better with experience.

I start back up in September taking Design Research Methods and Decision Support Systems. Both are Doctoral level courses and should be fun.

With my 12 hours of transfer credit (bringing my total hours to 27), I'm 30% done at DSU and loving it! :)

Eric, I noticed your change to your linked-in profile. Are you on your own again consulting?

Good news on the degree progress.

Yes I am...I've been independent since March 2007. Currently working a contract here in Dallas and enjoying it.

I am glad to hear you are doing well and still enjoying the program.

I just finished a 6-week summer course (INFS 750) in June and started a second 5-week summer course (INFS 780) the week after. The summer courses are very intense so my free time has been very limited. But, I am happy to report, with my 9 transfer credits, I am now 38.5% done. ;)

I thought about the 5 week summer course but I needed the chance to relax a bit + I've got some extra time-intensive work coming up. Looking forward to the time off :)

You'll have to tell me out INFS 780 is.

I thought about taking the second summer session off, but I'm doing my best to stick with my plan. Hopefully I don't get burned out! On the positive side, I get around three weeks off between when this semester ends and the fall semester begins.

I'll let you know how it goes. It looks like a lot of work at this point. The professor is excellent so far.

Hi Eric, I finally remembered my password!

I agree with your assessment of the Programming for E-commerce class. There was tons of work but little guidance.
I have taken 3 classes so far. We took two of them at the same time.
    • Systems Analysis and Design Using Case-Based Tools
    • IT Infrastructure, Technology and Network Management
    • Programming for E-Commerce

DSU wouldn’t let me take over 3 classes before official applying so I had to sit out the second summer session. I put together my application and references and received my acceptance letter last week for the Master in Information System. I’m planning on taking “Enterprise Modeling and Data Management” in the fall.

Let me know how you progress I may go ahead and do the Doctorate program when I complete my Masters.

Congrats on getting accepted to the MS program...I'm sure we'll see each other again 'on-campus' :)

After busting my butt this summer taking INFS 750 (IT Infrastructure, Technology and Network Management) and INFS 780 (Information Technology Strategy and Policy) (only two weeks to go!), I decided to accelerate my studies a little. I was already enrolled in INFS 830 (Decision Support Systems) and INFS 890 (Research Seminar) and I just added INFS 805 (Design Research Methods) to my fall 2008 lineup.

Are you taking INFS 890 in the fall?

Also, did you get a chance to read up on the "qualifying portfolio" requirement yet? They recently updated it so it now includes all of the details. The research component has me a little concerned.
