    Hi,

After so many years of being with Kaplan and being upset with their increases each half a year, I've had it! So I did some studying and found TUI, which I thought "Sweet! Less money!" and it is in the same ranking of UCSF! :) At any rate, I'm utterly "Frighten" about the way the online is compared to Kaplan. Anyone have any good suggestions let me know! Any comparison to Kaplan would be nice to know as well! I start on the 7th and am looking forward to getting my MBA in Finance/Information Systems.

    Thanks,

    Alice

I do not have any experience with Kaplan but did earn an MS - ITM in 2004 from TUI. I did like the fact that you were left alone to do your work. It was all research and paper writing. I did not like the fact that there were not any books but on the positive side, there were not any books to buy. I am thinking of taking a few finiance classes with them in the future so they can not be that bad.

    Do you have specific questions?

At Kaplan we are required to log in three times a week and post on each question on the message boards at least one or two times. We also had a "report" that was due each week! The weeks were 6 weeks long so it was a tad bit stressful to deal with! They also introduced me in the MBA class an item called "SDLP" which quite frankly (Sucked)!

I love writing reports but it was one on top of another in such a short span (for the MBA) that killed my social life! Though I know you loose that when you go to school! ;)

Curious as to how interaction with the teacher and the other students in the class goes, if any. Oh and from what I read there is no "Team Work" items! Oh I hope I read correctly!

    Thanks Again!

When I took classes - no interaction with other students, no discussion forums, no minimum number of "log-ins". You get the assignments - you turn them in - period. Interaction with the instructor depended on how many questions I asked - lots of questions = lots of interaction and few questions = little interaction.

I hope that helps. Each two week period I had to write about 15 pages per class. One 10 page paper and one 5 page paper.

Thanks Randell! This helps a lot! Sounds an easy "A" I like that idea! I'm looking forward to start this!

If you think like that you will get burnt. It is not that easy. Good luck-

Well compared to what "Kaplan" wanted me to do, this should be much easier than that! I'm just stating in that case of not having to be required to be online three times a week and what not! I did pretty well for the Bachelor's degree at Kaplan, but the MBA I just didn't like the format! I'm looking forward to a fresh new format and am enjoying the possibility! I know I shouldn't think "Easy A" I should think of a good challenge to come and will enjoy a great outcome for me in the end!

Thanks again Randell and thanks for the pep talk of "burnt" ;)

One last question, because it was totally on my mind last night and I couldn't sleep. How much time hrs per day/week did you devote to the each class? I am signed up for two classes, and wanted to see how much time is necessary, something I'm trying to find out now, since I can't sleep!

    Thanks again!

    I did find this page:

    http://www.onlinedegreereviews.org/college/touro-university-international/

    Then found:

    1)course work?
For every course there are modules that must be done. There are 6
modules that must be completed before the end of the session to pass the
course. Each module consists of two 3-4 page papers and 1 discussion
    board post.

    2) Do you accept undergraduate degrees from a DETC accredited institution?
Yes, we should be able to accept your degree, but we will need to see
    your transcripts first.

    3) Is there a way I can review a "sample" class / class setting?

Unfortunately, there is not. Only when you register for a course and submit payment for the class will a course CD be sent to you.

    5) Is there a requirement to login to class at a specific time or schedule (live/real time interaction)?

There is no requirement as to how many times a day or week you log in or spend logged in. We do not have any untimely requirements like that. As long as you complete the modules as they are due, you will be fine.

Touro University International is now TUI University. The staff is extremely helpful and military friendly.

TUI uses the case studies methodology, encouraging critical thinking.

I am so looking forward to the "Case Studies" I also read that there is no "Multiple Choice Tests" which I hated at Kaplan! I'm totally looking forward now! Thank you everyone!

It has been a while but I remember taking two classes per semester and that was my limit. I think it was about 5 hours a week per class but don't hold me to that.

Well, having a hard time starting out! Had to plop down plastic instead of a student loan :( but I was able to finally get online today! I'm loving it! I love the set up and that I really don't have to be physically online! I can download my articles and work without the need of wires! So far I am liking what I see! We will see how well later! Looks like a few posting on the Discussion Thread, but it's only 10% of the grade, which I'm sure I'll get all of the points on that part! I love how the modules are two weeks long not 1 quick week! Thank goodness! Refugee let me know what your experience is like, so far one day of being able to poke around I've found it very nice and easy to navigate around! Found the download able file and poked around that as well! Then realized need to get the passwords on the libraries and what not! So far so good!

Just of curiosity, from an outsider: Does "TUI" stand for anything (other than this):

Yes, I know it used to, but now?

TUI, of course, used to stand for Touro University International. After Touro College sold, the university needed a new name that didn't have "Touro" in it. The new owners pointed out that TUI is Latin for "your." Which might be a good marketing idea, if they advertise it as "TUI is YOUR university."

This sounded to weird so I called the school a few weeks ago and they confirmed this.

Found a webpage (Yes it is confirmed):

    http://www.freedict.com/onldict/lat.html

    Results for 'tui'
    Latin English
tui your, yours /I read YOUR letter that said

Why too wierd? It is very common when a company is sold to require a name change, especially if a parent corporation is selling a subsidiary and the subsidiary's name contains part of the former parent company's name.

Not the name change but keeping the same initals and using the latin meaning of those intinals for a name.

Changing a company name to its initials is not all that wierd, in fact it was quite common back in the 1980s. Now, actually using (or at least proposing to use) the Latin meaning of your initials ... leave that to a bunch of egghead university administrators. Except, in this case, they have no Department of Classics.
