Great news! Tutition and fees are very affordable, I would guess that this is due to the same windfall revenues from energy production that are benefitting University of Wyoming students?

They were listed among the five largest providers of distance courses, in Bears Guide, for 20+ years. Sadly, one of their most innovative programs -- a doctorate in mathematics, in which students paid for faculty to fly to them from time to time -- ended when grants ran out. It was apparently a very popular way for some faculty to escape some of the Alaskan winter.

    Uaa

This sure is news to me. I live in Alaska and my daughter has two degrees from them. This must be new. They have never offered this before.
Alaska Pacific University has but UAA has not. This sounds new to me.
They have always had distant learning but it is a joke for the most part.
You could not complete a degree this way so this must be new and about time.

    Pat,

UAF (Fairbanks) is the only school that offers doctorates in the state, that I am aware of. APU had an Ed.D. collaborative program with Boston University for a couple of years, but I think that went away. I hear UAA (Anchorage) is considering a collaborative teaching or leadership doctorate in the near future. They previously had a collaborative doctorate in public administration.

UAS (Southeast) and UAF seem to be the campuses with strong distance learning programs, mostly UAS.

    Uaf

I am aware of UAF being the only school with doctorates. Since I live here and have gone to UAA I think I might know a little about the schools in my state. Also the tuition that was mentioned is for in state only. It is over $300 for out of state.

You are correct about tuition for out of state - I found an updated tuition listing.
However summer course fees are the same for both in and out of state. Courses I'm interested in are 1 to 6 weeks long so I could combine with a vacation in the next year or so.

If you are a resident of certain western states, under the Western Undergraduate Exchange program, the tuition is less than that for a non resident. I do not know if it applies to summer classes.

Thanks for the info. I have a friend who just moved to Alaska and was wondering what options were available. Now he has some leads...

If your friend is looking to study business, UAA and UAF are AACSB accredited. APU and UAS are not.

One the other hand, if his friend wants a master's in business administration, UAS offers the MBA online, while UAA, UAF, and APU do not.

As a matter of fact, if his friend wants a bachelor's in business administration, UAS and APU offer the bachelor's in business administration online, which UAA and UAF do not.
