Greetings all, Does anyone know if there are Indian universities that offer postgraduate degrees entirely through distance education or by research (i.e., without having to be physically there) other than IGNOU? Any updates? Kenneth
ICFAI University offers a lot of distance learning programs. Eventhough they have had some trouble with the accreditors, it seems to have been sorted out now. They are a private sector college, for profit in US parlance. I think you will have to visit india for writing exams. There are other universities that offer distance learning programs. Take a look at this. Most if not all would require you to be present in India to write the exams. Best Sathya
Thanks Hi all, Thanks to Ted and Sathya for their responses. I am following up on this information as supplied. Sathya, what do you think of IGNOU? BetterEdit, one can always get another degree! K
IGNOU is good. They have been in this field for a long time now and have proven credentials. Do keep in mind the fact that indian system is not as flexible as the US system. They have a good following among the military in india. The MBA and MCA programs have admission tests, so that is a problem. I am not sure if they accept GMAT or GRE. You will need to find that out. From what i have heard, study materials are good and they are responsive. The exams can be arranged in the US and they are paper based. IGNOU will soon be offering a MS program in Intellectual Property Rights. This is in collaboration with Queensland University of Technology. While information about the program is not readily available, it is proposed to start in Jan 2009. I emailed the program, but am yet to get any reply. As per the limited information available, it will be an online program open to people from all over the world. Best Sathya
PhD Programs Hi Sathya, et. al., How about their PhD programs--how flexible and creditable (recognition-wise, in terms of academic standing and standards)? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, K
Is it even possible for U.S. students to enroll in Indian DL programs? I checked out IGOU's web site and could find no mention of tuition or fee rates for foreign DL students.
Kenneth-> They have started offering PhD recently only. I do not know anyone who have done PhD there. But it is possible for foreign students to enroll, but campus visits and tests are mandatory. I cannot comment on the quality of delivery of the doctoral program though. TCord1964-> As far as i know foreign students will have to pay the fees in US$. It is slightly higher than the normal indian fees, but not much. Best Sathya
Yes, and they have a 33 page downloadable guide in PDF that tells you everything you need to know. The fees for Americans are: $100 to apply, $500 to register, and $1000 per year until completion. Not bad! -=Steve=-
That is a good link! I inquired and they say they have 5 American testing centers: Baltimore MD, Bloomington IL, San Jose CA, Atlanta GA and Dallas TX. There are some very nice degrees for not much money. You can get bachelors and masters in English, Math, Economic, history and quite a few others. The application process seems quick too.
