We are defending a person out here on some criminal charges arising from accepting a public contract as a licensed mental health counselor. This person had a state license at one time but failed to renew it. A degree apparently was not a requirement for original licensure since this person was doing counselling at the time the licensure act came into force. The client was apparently "grandfathered". The client got a Ph.D. in psychology from Kensington U in 1994. I looked at the 1994 catalogue; unaccredited but registered with the California State Bar for their correspondence J.D. Also, authorized by the state. Whether the degree is a fraud will probably matter at trial because of the nature of the charges. Was Kensington a mill in 1994? Thanks for the help. Nosborne
Kensington was an authorized California school for a number of years. The lost their California approval sometime in the 1990's. The California BPPVE could give you the exact date. (916) 445-3427. If I recall, the appellate judge who wrote the opinion upholding the decision of the state to deny approval, stated the school was not a diploma mill but it didn't meet the California standards. (This was a published opinion) The school later relocated (at least in form) to Hawaii. David L. Boyd
In addition to the PhD from Kensington, she allegedly falsely claimed a BS from an RA institution. But, Nosborne, I am concerned about discussing your post in this forum. This story is available on web, complete with name, address, and picture of the individual involved. There's no confidentiality or anonymity possible. Is this good for your client? Do you really want this to be discussed here? If so, I'll post the link to the story. If not, I shall pass on without further comment.
So much for trying to disguise the issue! Yes, please do drop the subject. I was not aware that information on this case was posted. Nosborne
This thread sparked my interest in Kensington U. I did a quick search and found many Kenington U. grads as faculty at many RA institutions and was quite surprised. Surprised to the extent that I was wondering if there is an accredited Kensington U. out there somewhere: A short list: California State University, Los Angeles http://www.calstatela.edu/univ/ppa/mguide/eleceng.htm California State University, Long Beach http://www.csulb.edu/~philos/alumni.html Eastern College http://www.eastern.edu/academic/accel/sps/OM_%20Instructors.html University of North Carolina School of Public Health: (listed as a consultant but resume cites as assistant prof. at St. Augustine College in Raleigh, NC) http://www.sph.unc.edu/OSHERC/FACSTAFF/jordanr.htm A St. Augs. link for Dr. Jordan: http://www.st-aug.edu/default/sciencemath/clubs.htm Fayetteville Technical Community College http://www.faytech.cc.nc.us/busproj/telecourse_descriptions.htm DeVry New York http://www.ny.devry.edu/academics/evening/ffaculty.htm Bemidji State University http://www.bemidji.msus.edu/Catalog/00precatalog/GradCatalog/Frontpages/SectionVIII/admfac.html Edison Community College http://www.edison.edu/catalog2001_2002/administration%20and%20faculty.htm U. If I remember correctly, Edison CC also has/had a Columbia State alum on their faculty. Apparently their hiring standards should be looked at again. Bruce
The head of a large TAFE Institute here in Australia became extreemly embrrased when someone questioned the Kensington doctorate hanging on his wall. He no longer calls himself 'Dr'. Cheers, George
I didn't see the Columbia State alum. There are many faculty from the real Columbia Univesity. Nonetheless, they also have a doctor who is a Columbia Pacific U. Graduate John
My mistake...a different Edison Community College, this one in Ohio. Check out ESL Coordinator John Wilt at: http://www.edison.cc.oh.us/AllStaff.htm I must warn you John, that this guy is also an alum of one of your alma maters! Bruce [Note: This message has been edited by Bruce]
