I laugh to think my summer vacation from school has just started and it is a rainy November day here in San Francisco. USQ is out for the Summer break. I'll resume again in Winter, March 2002.

As a new student this last semester, the biggest advice I can say is, if you are on online student, and the syllabus says you can buy generic book on the subject (as my Marketing class did), buy the same book being used by on-campus students, as your study and direction and reference will come from that book.

Also, as a USQOnline student, you will be eventually be asked to join the USQConnect group of students, which are the external DL non-online students. They outnumber online students about 150 to 1 and generally use the same instructors, although not the same material. They will ask for their convenience, of course.

I also learned to send everything FedEx with signature delivery confirmation. Yes, major written reports with handouts and audio cassettes have been lost. The signature saved me from being penalized as a late submission when it was found. Always copy your original audio cassette before sending. You can print out copies of your papers from your hard drive, but you have to rerecord a lost audio cassette if you have no copy.

    Cheers,

    Christian

Congrats on finishing your semester -- or rather, good on yer.

USQ is one of my first choices for an online MBA, and I would love to hear more about your experience with the program. I'm also Bay Area based (Santa Cruz), and am interested to hear why you chose USQ over other distance, as well as onsite programs.

If you have the time and interest, you could e-mail directly at [email protected].

    Thanks, Dan

Paper printouts? Audio cassettes? How about MS Word and .wav files as attachments sent via e-mail? Faster and possibly more reliable than FedEx. It's hard to imagine a modern DL program doing without computers and the internet.

Oh, how I wish. I have all the software, and even the servers, to encode my audio in any format known to man and make available to them on demand, as a single file or streaming file. However, I guess they still like to read reports and listen to audio tapes while sitting on the, well, you get the point. [IMG]

Good feedback mate! Have you considered sending this to USQ as official? New standards for online delivery are being introduced next year into VET programs - this invaluable feedback would do well for the Higher Ed sector.

    Cheers,

    George,

A little off topic, but when will your website be accessible again?

In all of my written work for the Spurgeon's College MTh in Applied Theology, I have been required to submit two "hard" paper copies bound in essay folders. One copy is graded by two internal examiners and returned to me. The second is retained and reviewed by the University of Wales external examiners. Fortunately for me, the British postal service is reputed as being one of the finest mail services anywhere. My envelopes always arrive in London in excellent condition, and usually only in a few days time.

    Hi Russel,

Good question! I have been very busy this year - 5 Bachelor degrees to manage, finished my Masters and start my PhD next year. I am going to try and resurrect it over the Christmas break - bought myself a brand spanking new P4 1.8 gig so web design is gonna be a breeze. I am considering altering my site considerably - what areas do you want to see come back?

    Cheers,

    George

The entire site was informative! The section on degree mills was especially delightful.

Best wishes in your Ph.D. journey!
