anyone know of any easy and cheap social science credits that excelsior will except? I thought my edu credits would be ss but they are applied profesional...
Read this thread about Penn Foster Workforce Development courses, many of which are ACE evaluated for college credit. Another source of relatively inexpensive social science credit hours is Louisiana State University Independent & Distance Learning. And, of course, there are CLEP subject examinations.
Clovis Community College is a very inexpensive option. $222 gets you 6 credits. http://www.clovis.edu/AdministrationandFinance/TuitionandFees/index.asp Shawn
Excelsior accepts Dssts: http://www.getcollegecredit.com http://www.getcollegecredit.com/participating_institutions.html https://www.excelsior.edu/Excelsior_College/Excelsior_College_Examinations/Using_Exams_and_Assessment_at_EC/Exam_Cut_Score_Charts
A very subjective question, but if you already have informal knowledge of a subject then they're not very difficult. I received almost perfect scores on Introduction to Law Enforcement and Introduction to Criminal Justice for obvious reasons, but I flunked History of the Vietnam War because the exam focused mostly on the time frame of French involvement (which I knew little of) rather than American (which I had anticipated). If you don't already have a good background with a subject of an exam you'd like to take, I would buy a used introductory college textbook and brush up before the exam. At only $70 a whack, you don't have a whole lot to lose even if you don't pass.
>> I have taken (and passed) a good number of social science DSST and CLEP exams. These exams are 100 and 200 level subjects, presented in multiple choice format. Your college awards grades for passing scores. The website has a pdf file you should print out to give you the breakdown of what's on the test, then pick up a test prep book on the subject. (books specifically for test preparation of CLEP/DSST exams not a generic text book- too subjective) Check out the REA guides, they are A+ There is a message board forum dedicated to the subject of CLEP/DSST exams and how to pass them, I don't know if I can post the link, so if you want it just send me a PM.
You are welcomed. For more info about clep/dsst exams, visit (http://www.instantcertonline.com/forums/ ). I am disappointed that Excelsior changed testing providers. I would have registered to take a few of their exams through prometric.
