Seems degreeinfo.com has been down for a few days, is that why the boards are so slow? No one has the direct link to the forum? I got the direct link from google. Why is degreeinfo down?
Yea, just tried to go to www.degreeinfo.com: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage Most likely causes: You are not connected to the Internet. The website is encountering problems. There might be a typing error in the address. What you can try: Diagnose Connection Problems More information
I always go directly to the forums and have not experienced any problems lately. When I tried to access www.degreeinfo.com it returned "Error Code 10060: Connection timeout".
The people with more technical expertise than I (which includes just about everyone) have been notified.
It's been down for a few days. I bookmarked the main page, and it's down! I'm surprised the forum is still up.
The site http://www.degreeinfo.com is now working. However, this URL takes you directly to the discussion forums!!
Makes sense. The main site hasn't been updated in ages. I think it is in dire need of a facelift, or a permanent re-direct to the forum. Tom
It is definetly better for it to redirect to the forum. There is just so much giong on with Distance Degrees, the main site would have to be updated weekly to include all the options.
Already you can see a lot more posts on the board. It got SLOW for the last 4 or 5 days since the main site was down.
Hi, all, First, thanks from those who pointed out that the main (non-discussion boards) part of degreeinfo was down. I was unaware of the problem until Bruce emailed me about it. Second, thanks once again to Bruce for doing such a great job keeping an eye on things here. For several years, the main portion of the board has been hosted on one server, while the discussion board is hosted on a different server (this to distribute traffic and also provide some redundancy for backup purposes.) Nate, one of the degreeinfo partners who is a programmer/consultant by trade, had hosted the main part of the site on one of his servers. With the recent sale of his company, he took that server offline, forgetting the DegreeInfo was on it. So... I've temporarily rerouted www.degreeinfo.com to point to the same location as forums.degreeinfo.com. Once I get the backup of the main part of the site from Nate, I will put it back up on a new server. And yes, as has been pointed out... the main portion of the site is in desperate need of a facelift, and that is something that's on the burner to be worked on (along with a custom look to the discussion board.) There are some other cool ideas being batted around, but it's a matter of time and resources to make them happen... basically there are only so many hours in a day... but we do plan some new things in the not-so-distant future Thanks much for your continued support. If you have any questions or suggestions, I am always interested in hearing them. - Chip Cofounder/admin
hey Chip, there is one more thing you may want to fix. In Internet explorer (have not tried other browsers) If you type degreeinfo.com into the address bar, it does not load, but if you type www.degreeinfo.com, it loads fine. I do have it set in IE to not search from the address bar, so it just goes to the site you type. I beleive i was able to get to degreeinfo in the past without typeing the WWW.degreeinfo.com. This is something the webmaster controls, correct?
Thanks for pointing this out. "degreeinfo.com" without the www was still pointed to the old (offline) server. I've fixed it. Please let me know if you see any other weirdness. I'm still waiting on Nate for the files for the main portion of the site. As soon as I have them, I'll put things back up
