    Hi All!

Having completed my MSED, I'm looking to get 18 graduate hours of history courses so that I can teach the Dual Enrollment History courses my high school offers. I know there's APU, but are there any other schools that you all know of which offer graduate history courses online? I suppose they don't really have to be a part of a graduate program, but they DO need to be history courses.

APU seems to like the 16 week term, but if there are any 8 week courses I could do during the summer, it would speed things up.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!!

I was at Fort Hays for a while, the history courses were pretty good and the price was good. But if you try for a complete graduate degree with them you will go into the MLS program. And 12 hours will be some courses not related to history. One of those courses I took, it was a complete train wreck. The instructor was there on the first week and didn't pop back in until the last two weeks of class. Everyone hit the roof over it. By the looks of ratemyprofessor.com the buffoon is still there. Most places would not invite an instructor back who pulled antics like that. After that class I took my credit hours and ran like hell!

I'm seriously considering the MAIS from WNMU with either Poli Sci, English and/or Comp Sci-MIS.

Tuition at my local B&M University for 6 hours would be $1400.00, at WNMU the 6 hours would be $796.50. What a deal!

I wholeheartedly concur. With fees added in, 6 hours grad tuition at my alma mater costs $1,800+.

Thanks to all who have replied thus far. I'm looking at APU for the actual masters, but obviously if I take courses elsewhere, I'd like them to transfer. I believe APU lets you transfer 15 graduate credits, but because their history programs follow a set format, I'd want my courses to be applicable to it. I wish they offered a comparative history concentration like many other schools, but the concentrations are good too.

If I were to take courses through a variety of universities and then transfer them to APU, do they only charge ONE transfer evaluation fee total, or is it one per transcript?

AMU took 9 hours from my MA transcript. As far as evaluating and charging for each one, I am not sure.

So they used credit from a degree you had already earned?

Many schools will accept credit from one degree program and apply it to another. It's seen very frequently in joint degree programs like J.D./M.P.A., J.D./M.B.A., etc.

Hmmm.... so then perhaps it would be better for me to go for an MEd in administration first. I'm sure many of the courses from my MSEd in curriculum and instruction could apply. I thought you could only transfer courses that weren't part of a degree program.

    Thanks for the heads up!

I can attest from first hand experience the history courses at West Alabama are wonderful. If you have any questions about how the courses are conducted I will be glad to answer.

Thank you for the offer. I've looked at several of the schools that folks have mentioned, and I think I'm going to stick with APU. They have a wide variety of courses, which I think is beneficial to my needs.

However, I'm not writing the other options off completely. I would love to hear how the courses work at UWA. I saw that they were on a 10 week session schedule.

Yes they are currently ona 10 week session. However starting in the Fall 2008 they will be moving to 8 week sessions. They will feature a Fall I term, Fall II term, followed by Spring I and Spring II. They will then finish up with a single summer term 8 weeks in length. This summer is the last of teh 10 week sessions. In essence you could do two classes at a time (I did and it is very manageable) and be finished with the 18 grad hours by Christmas.

What are the classes themselves like? Do they involve a great deal of discussion? What are the assignments like? Could you give me a few more details about the individual classes?

    Thanks,
    Matt

The courses I took were all with the same professor. He required two discussion essays varying in length from 4-6 pages. Also he expected a film review of a movie he selected ranging 6-10 pages. The biggest part of the class called for five book reviews ranging from 6-12 pages each. There were no tests, discussions, chats, etc.
