  1. Hi everyone. Does anybody know of any MA/MS's in Educational Adminstration/Leadership that don't require teacher licensure. It doesn't need to result in principal licensure. It needs to be almost completey online(I can deal with a couple of short intensives), and hopefully NCATE accredited. Even an MA/MS in Education with a concentration of Admin/Leadership would be fine. I would prefer that it not be an M. Ed, nothing against them though. Thanks for all the help in advance.

P.S.- I looked through most of the M. Ed thread, but someone might spot something that I didn't.

As a Walden grad, I'm totally pro-Walden. They have an MSEd in Educational Leadership. It does NOT lead to licensure, though it is modeled after NCATE and other standards. It is NOT NCATE accredited.

The only online university to receive NCATE accreditation is Western Governors University. I can't really testify to their program, but I will say I'm looking at them myself for Educational Leadership.

Now if you'd be okay with instructional leadership, as opposed to educational leadership, there's also a ton of programs available for that. Walden has one of those as well.

If you elaborate a little on what you need and why, I could probably offer some more suggestions based on what I've found from looking.

So I jumped the gun on my response...

After re-reading your question, you say you want a program that doesn't require teacher licensure. I missed that part.

Although I can't be 100% certain, I'd say you probably will not find any NCATE accredited ed leadership program that doesn't require teacher licensure. Because NCATE, the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, focus on various standards and state regulations when reviewing a program, they more than likely take into consideration that laws and regulations require educational administrators to have a minimum of three years of teaching experience in order to obtain licensure. Admin programs also require an internship, which one obviously wouldn't be able to do without a license and previous experience as a teacher.

I remember when I was looking up programs that Excelsior had an MLS with a concentration in Ed Leadership. You may want to consider that. As a teacher who is looking to earn an administrative license, however, I can say that such a program would do nothing for my advancement. It's all going to depend on what you want the degree for.

U Dub's program isn't conducted via distance learning. It is cohort-based, and requires three-week intensive residencies during the summer, followed by monthly classroom sessions on campus conducted in the evening, "after-school". It assumes that one is already licensed and employed as a teacher and is in a position to integrate assignments in with one's day job.

Although I can't speak to the quality of it, American Public University has a new MEd in Instructional Leadership. www.apus.edu

If you are looking for not just regionally accredited, but also nationally accredited. You can look at www.calcoast.edu
