Hey guys I have a quick question with a simple answer hopefully. I need to register for 2 courses through Penn Foster (Art Appreciation and physical Science--both worth 3 credits) and I called the number on the website. I told the guy I wanted to order these courses and he asked me what program I was interested in. I told him that I just needed to order these courses and was not interested in enrolling in a program. He gave me a toll free number but that number goes to the High School Courses which only appear to be 1 credit a piece. This is obviously not the right spot either. Do any of you know a name, number, specific part of their site that I can go to an order these courses? Thanks....

Try calling the Penn Foster Workforce Development line: 1-800-233-0259. Let them know that you need to take a couple of courses for college credit. Pug provided this info here a little while back.

    Hi,
I took those courses and I think you will enjoy. They are not to difficult and the Art comes with a great textbook. The Physical Science comes in the individual lesson format, but does a good job at the 100 level. Both ACE listed.

The number provided by Japhy was dead on. I spoke to a very nice lady and I scheduled Art Appreciation which fulfills my humanities and Physical Science which fulfills my general ed elective (I hope). I only have one concern though. Since I scheduled the courses at the same time the final proctored exams are combined into one exam. I'm a little worried this is going to make it a rough day. Oh well I'm just glad they are ordered. :)

The nice lady would have been Maribeth. She can be tough to reach sometimes but she's very responsive and very helpful. Physical Science will absolutely satisfy your general ed elective, no worries.

Cool...it seems like a really fun course so I can't wait till it gets here. Yeah her name was Maribeth and she was awesome. :)

Your final exams will not be combined. When you take the final as an enrolled student with the college, the exams are combined. They come in one packet and you have one hour to do each subject. But your courses were ordered through the Workforce division, so you can order your exams one at a time. Just call Maribeth and tell her you are ready for the final to be sent when you're ready. They do have one strange rule though...if you are taking two classes at a time and you order the final for one of them, you will be locked out of the other class until the final for the first one has been graded and posted. Then you'll have to call Maribeth again and ask her to unlock the other course so you can again submit assignments. Strange...

How long did it take the materials to arrive for you? She told me it would be around 48 hours which means tomorrow. The weird thing is that my card hasn't been charged yet. Hmmm....

I highly doubt it will be arriving in 48 hrs. It usually takes them at least that long to process the order.

I would look for it in 7 business days or so.

If the courses are available online, in addition to in print, then the 48 hour timeframe makes sense. However, the printed materials usually take between 5 and 10 business days to be delivered.

Ah, yes, you would be correct. I didn't think about it being online.

The courses I have ordered have taken about 10 days to arrive. The study guides are online, but the texts are not. Even if they were, you don't get your online ID until the courses arrive.

The courses will be there before you know it.

I think you will enjoy your courses. I am currently in the AS in Marketing program at Penn Foster, and taking the Financial Accounting course. It is perhaps the most difficult course I have taken.

I have also taken English Composition, Principles of Marketing, Principles of Managment, Business Math...and I have learned a great deal in all of the courses and have found the rigor to be on par with anything I have taken at a B&M university.

Yeah I hear the two I've scheduled are fun courses. Can't wait to get started.

I took many of those as well. I found the essay portions of the English Composition course VERY tough! I thought I did a great job, but I consistently got average marks, a few even below average. It was very frustrating. Intro to Literature was also very demanding.

How long did the Introduction to Literature course take you to complete? What types of assignments did you have to complete and how would you rate the difficulty of the final examination?

It took me about a month or 6 weeks working a few nights per week, several hours per session. The assignments were varied. Some were multiple choice/true false/matching, and addressed literature fundamentals (different types of poems, stories, plays, voice, narration, symbolism). There were also writing assignments that involved literature interpretation, drama, personal experience comparisons to known themes, etc. The final was not super easy, but was not extraordinarily difficult either. It was a combination of multiple choice and writing assignments, the writing assignments having to do with interpretation.

Well I got my login information in today from Penn Foster. You guys were right though. Although I can login and check grades, take tests, and even look at review material I can't really do any lessons without the books. Ah well...I guess in a few more days I'll be ready to roll.
