I have met all of the requirements to appeal the non-RA credit acceptance policy. I am told that it will take up to 4 weeks to complete the appeal process.

If we are including all of my ACE and RA credits I should have 160 or more credits if they take my NA credits too. I stopped one course shy of a BSBA from CCU, so that will be 123 credits by itself.

They asked for course descriptions from CCU, so I don't really know how they will deal with the general education credits that I transfered since there aren't any course descriptions for them.

    I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Athabasca is evaluated my transcripts at the same time...we will see how that process goes as well. Both places are on the same timetable.

This is exactly why I always put a "Bending the rules" chapter in Bears' Guide. Unwelcome decisions should be challenged; it often works, either on a case by case basis, or causes a policy change.

When I was doing the marketing for the Heriot-Watt University/Edinburgh Business School MBA (1991-1999), Excelsior would not give give credit for those very comprehensive courses (plus a tough 3-hour proctored exam). I made a presentation to then-president Paula Peinovich, including a copy of a textbook (700 pages) and a sample exam, and a polite letter that said, in effect, "You give 6 semester units for a 90-minute CLEP exam. Don't you think this course + exam is worth four?" She agreed, and credit was given.

Good job! I believe it was Jamie Gauthier along with the DETC Director who persuaded Excelsior to institute the NA appeal process, which is officially listed in Excelsiors website. If the appeal results are not satisfactory, contact Michael Lambert at DETC, and he could probably assist you as well. DETC has been working closely with Excelsior on some projects, so the familiarity aspect is at play as well.

    Keep us informed.

    Thanks, Abner

    Thanks for the encouragement.

I think that it was posted before, maybe by you, do you have Mr. Lambert's email address?

Thankfully Mr. Lambert wrote a nice letter to EC in support of my credit transfer. I really appreciated that. He seems to be a real nice guy.

Today I talked to a specialist that said that I could only transfer 30 non-regionally accredited credits into degree program. If they make it through the appeal process, that is. Who knows, I have been told so many different things about this process it is confusing.

Good. Follow this thing through. To date, I think you are the very first to do this at EC. Let's remember, this process is brand new to EC. As far as the 30 non-regionally accredited credits rule, I have never heard of that and it doesn't sound right. I believe once EC has done a few of these NA evaluations, they will become more familiar with it and everything will run smoother.

Keep your chin up and don't give up!!!!

I don't have to have another undergraduate degree. I wouldn't mind having it for future insurance purposes. Since I am not 100% on which MBA I will choose it would be nice to have all options opened up to me by having a RA degree.

Part of my reason for doing this appeal process is for curiosity and to be the guinea pig for everyone else.

Stupid question time...why did you stop?

I am guessing because he wants to trade the NA credit for an RA degree. If he receives his BS degree at CCU, he would have to fulfill 30 new credits for a second BS degree at EC.

Abner answered the question correctly. I wanted to challenge the EC policy and maximize my transferability.

Has anybody on this forum actually managed to transfer non-ACE, DETC credits towards an Excelsior undergrad program ?

I am still working through the appeal process with EC. Everything is in review right now. Hopefully we will hear something soon.

Interesting. Can you ask her what level of degree she was going for, and how many credits they gave her?

    Thanks,

She was going for a BS and they gave her 30 credits the amount of credits she applyed for.
They were for classes she took at a non-acredited religious seminary.

a few weeks I think... but I don't really remember...
She wrote up detailed course discriptions... and she sent in the transcript form the school.

    question for Kayausa

Do you know if your friend did this as a portfolio assessment , where you take a 3 credit course then pay $95 per credit attempted ?

Or did they just grant her the credits based on her transcript and the write-ups she did ?
