I have several questions about Thomas Edison State College(TESC) and the USDA Graduate School. I have reviewed the old threads but I'm not sure how current the old information may be. Thanks.

    1. Does anyone have any experience with TESC and acceptance of USDA Graduate School credits? I know that many of the courses have received credit recommendations by ACE. If appropriate to the degree program enrolled in, does TESC accept all of the ACE recommendations or do they refuse to accept some?

    2. Is the USDA Graduate School accredited by any legitimate entity? If not, how can the Federal government accept their credits?

    3. How are the actual courses? Are they current and challenging or about what one would expect from the Federal government? When I was in the Army in the early 80's, many of our maintenance manuals for sophisticated equipment were written like comic books with cartoonish GI's offering instructions.

    4. Are the courses completely online or does the student have to take the tests at a local community college? If you have two or more exams in a course that can really slow down your progress.

From the USDA Graduate School web site:

    # Do you grant degrees?/Are you accredited?

The Graduate School does not grant degrees, nor has it ever sought that authority. We prefer to focus on continuing education and training for working adults. Some Graduate School courses have been designated to receive college credit recommended by the ACE College Credit Recommendation Service. Adults who wish to pursue outside degree programs should verify with their college or university which credits will transfer before registering for courses at the Graduate School. You can also transfer credits from several of our certificate programs toward a degree at one of our Partners in Education.

    Partners in Education

The Graduate School, USDA partners with a variety of educational institutions and organizations so that our customers can better leverage our courses and programs to meet their unique educational needs. These partnerships enable us to offer you a greater depth of course offerings, exciting certificate programs, and academic degree opportunities.

Identify which of our partner schools has a program that best suits your needs. Each school has developed a unique partnership with the Graduate School where in many cases they will transfer a completed certificate directly to an academic degree program. The application of these credits may differ with each institution.

After you select a program that fits your needs, contact the respective school and apply for admission. Once you are accepted, the school will provide you with details regarding how you may transfer an entire certificate program or credits from individual courses to a degree program.

In regards to #3, I've taken the Introduction to Library Techniques course, and it was somewhat challenging, but, to a bit of my surprise, I did very well. They textbooks they use are actual college textbooks, for the most part. (Don't use their recommended bookseller- it's too expensive...)
In regards to 4, you can submit the course materials online, if you wish. (Mine didn't work- so it's a good thing I kept copies to mail in.) You have to take the final exam in person with a proctor that you pick.

I'm planning to take more courses from them, though I wish they still offered the Library Technician program...

Regarding #1, TESC has accepted every ACE recommendation I have attempted to transfer and they are listed by ACE as a registered, participating school. Also, of the USDA Graduate School courses that have been reviewed by ACE, I believe all have been recommended for college credit at the undergarduate level, lower division.
