Wow -- great find! I am going to take a serious look at this program. I really like the Applied Pharmacoeconomics option. I have wanted to earn another graduate degree for some time and this one really intrigues me. It may be between this and a Leadership M.S. from Duquesne. Thanks for posting.

I actually looked into going into pharmacy a couple of years ago, but at the time there was only one program that offered a distance learning BS in Pharmacy, Creighton University. As far as I know, that is still the case.

This program would be good for those who already have a BS in Pharmacy, but the PharmD is still the gold standard for those who want to become a pharmacist (a highly paid profession with a strong future, by the way).

I agree with you on all counts! However, I do not want to be a pharmacist -- rather, I want to augment my knowlege and skills for my current position and to build capabilities for doing more in the future. For example, I believe this degree is well-suited for someone to assume a senior management role with a PBM (assuming they also possess other KSAs as well). Other possibilities include -- but are not limited to -- consulting, senior analyst at a "Think Tank", etc.

IIUC, the MS Pharmacy is one degree above the PharmD, which in turn is an upgraded/inflated version of the old BS Pharmacy (similar to the upgrading/inflating of the LLB to the JD and the BD to the MDiv).

You may be correct, Ted. Pharmacy schools have actually switched over to the PharmD as the first professional degree, with the BS in Pharmacy being discontinued. Many pharmacists who simply have a BS have been upgrading to the "new" PharmD, and that is why many PharmD programs specify they are for students who already have a BS in Pharmacy. As far as I know, Creighton University remains the only school where one can start a PharmD degree from scratch strictly through DL.

Let me clarify, you do NOT need a BS in pharmacy to apply to these programs. These programs are geared toward those who want to work on the business administration side of the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. (Particularly, the applied pharmacoeconomics option, which is in hot demand now.)

No you don't. From the web site:

What are the requirements for admission to the programs?
You must have an undergraduate degree (in any field) or a PharmD degree. You must take the Graduate Record Exam and obtain an acceptable score. Applicants who have already earned a master's degree and applicants who have already earned a doctorate (Pharm.D., J.D., M.D., Ph.D.) may be exempt from the requirement to submit a GRE score.
