What are the most inexpensive DL schools for individual classes at the undergraduate level? I was recently asked by a friend who knows of my interest in DL and I couldn't give him an answer off the top of my head. The most recent threads are several years old and I'm sure that there have been a number of changes, especially in the number of junior colleges providing courses. He doesn't care if the courses are Internet or print.

Clovis Community College (RA) - $122 per 3 hour course
Penn Foster College (NA, most ACE reviewed) - $175 per 3 hour course with books included
LSU (RA) - $225 per 3 hour course
Eugene Bible College (NA, RA Candidates) - $250 per 3 hour course
Global University (NA, RA Candidates) - $300 per 3 hour course
FEMA Credit (free) transcripted at FCC - $60 per 1 hour course

Numerous others at $400+ per 3 hour course, but why even bother looking at those if you're looking at price alone?

Brigham Young University is about $137 per semester hour and is RA. Their timing is not semester based. Many courses require a proctored exam.

BYU does look good for online courses, with a 3-credit course costing $411:

I am currently starting an independent study course at LSU for only $225. Everything has been going well so far, and I am submitting my first homework assignment now. These LSU courses can also be taken at any time. Most of the LSU courses require a proctored midterm and a final in addition to submitting homework assignments. I think they want or at least prefer the proctor to be at a university or community college testing center. For the linear algebra course I am taking, the HW has to be submitted by post mail. However, I get the results online and the corrected homework is mailed back to me.

My wife has taken a number of classes from BYU and has been pleased. They fall into the group of "$400+ per course" schools I referenced in my first post. They're good, they're inexpensive, but they're nowhere near the least expensive. Fort Hays (FHSU) is another of those schools. I believe they're in the ballpark of $450 per 3 hour course, but they have the added advantage of being offered in 8 week formats.

Are there any cheaper courses in the 8 week format that is RA? That 8 week format is more structured for me but man it's a little expensive considering the other options.

BTW, LSU's price has gone up slightly from $225 to $241 per course.

I am not aware of anything cheaper than FHSU in an 8 week format. If you like the structure of a set format I would suggest Clovis Community College. They're the cheapest of the bunch, RA, and although they do a 16 week format you should be able to swing multiple classes at a time. 2 classes in 16 weeks is obviously the same a 1 in 8 weeks.

Central Texas College (RA) has 8-week courses that cost $390 each for out-of-state residents.

If living in Bayou country, you may consider Louisiana community colleges. Baton Rouge Community College appears to offer a good variety of online courses. For in-state residents, pricing looks very affordable.

Rio Salado College in Arizona starts new classes every week. However, tuition costs $477 per course.

Man I need to slap myself in the face for not remembering BRCC. I guess sometimes we are always looking outside of our area instead of close to home. BRCC has online courses and I'm certain they are really cheap. Their B&M courses are very decent so I assume the online courses should fall within that range. Thanks!
