Athabasca's 3 yr. BGS: Good for grad programs?

I am one course shy of completing my BSBA from CCU. After looking at Athabasca's 3 yr. BGS I have been considering having my transcripts evaluated for the 3 yr BGS.

This program requires 90 credits and is RA in the US.

Will the degree be as acceptable as a 120 credit BS for graduate studies?

 

Does Athabasca accept NA - DETC Credit?

 

Yes they do, from what I understand.

 

So can you take a NA degree and convert it to an RA degree @ Athabasca?

 

From what I understand they do not do credit baning, but they do accept NA credits in transfer.

This is what the CSR told me today.

 

Congrats on almost finishing up at CCU! Out of curiousity, how much would it cost to transfer in your credits for the BGS? In other words, total cost, did they say?

Well, if I had all of the credits that I needed it would be $80 for admission, $200 to have my transcripes evaluated, and a small graduation fee. The graduation fee is a bit unclear since the CSR didn't really go into it very much.

It seems too good to be true.

My next step is to find out if the degree would work for entrance into an American MBA.

Even if it is not good enough for the MBA entrance I still might consider it since I could have a RA BS for next to nothing.

 

Damn, are you sure? I might have my wife do that. Shoot, I might do that myself. I might email them to confirm this, can you email them as well? I would like to see it in writing. I don't doubt you, but sometimes you get a newbie at a school, so it would help to double check. THANKS for the info.

FYI, the degree doesn't allow as many credits in transfer for second BS or BA degrees.

You are reading the information correctly. If you have not graduated using the credits then Athabasca will accept them for tansfer credit. The BGS program has no requirment for taking courses at Athabasca to graduate. I suggest the Applied stream since it allows the greatest flexibility.

If your 90 credit degree does not get you entry into a MBA program in the US, and I suspect it will if you have some business experience, then it will certainly gain you entry into programs in Australia, New Zealand and England as well as most of Europe.

The credtial has served me well and Athabasca is a great organization to deal with.

 

Wharton accepts a 3-year bachelor's.

 

At one time I was enrolled in a 3-year BA at Briercrest College. I contacted Liberty University to see if they would accept the degree for entrance into their graduate programs. They said it would.

Also, the University of Wyoming distance MBA allows 3 yr degrees, too. I recall reading that when they first started the program.

Well, I applied at Athabasca last night. They had a drop down for colleges that I had previously attended...one of the choices was CCU. Nice.

My understanding was that, in Canada, the three-year bachelor's was not considered acceptable for graduate studies. On the other hand, if one wants to find out if some US schools (like University of Wyoming, mentioned hereinabove) will take your three-year bachelor's, by all means, go for it!

Yes, I paid for the application fee and the credit evaluation fee with me CC.

It was supposed to be $280 total, but I guess it automatically converted the US dollars. I noticed that my statement said I was charged $278 and some change.

 

When you apply and chose the option to have your credits reviewed you will be taken to an area that asked for previous credit.

Select Country, select State, select institution, and click OK.
