Hey guys I have a question on what you think my chances are of obtaining a second BS degree in Marketing? I just finished a BS with a concentration in Management from Charter Oak State College. I have finished a 25-credit certificate in Small Business from my local technical college (all lower division credit) that was completed after my degree BS from COSC. Now here is where I’m trying to obtain another 15-18 Upper Division credits from a NA college. Columbia Southern University has an advance undergraduate certificate in Marketing. I was hoping to use the NA accredited UD Credit to fulfill the 15 UD credits and the 15 technical college credits to finish the lower division credits for a total of 30 plus credits for a second degree. Has anyone had success transferring NA credits into Excelsior College? And has the credit been Upper Division?

Program @ MATC – Diploma Small Business Management

    Thanks....

I am pretty sure that it will not be possible to transfer NA credits EC.

From what I understand EC will not accept NA credits.

Do you think a BS would look better then a Grad Certificate? Plus I would like to use the additional credits I have gained so I could put it towards something. I also have 15 credits of FEMA credit at FCC too. I'm not sure what I can use to these for....

What is your career ambition? If marketing is your area of interest, then consider a grad certificate from Columbia Southern University. These courses may transfer to the MBA program at CSU. The program has a nice blend of marketing and management courses.

I have thought of that, but my main question here has anyone been able to port NA UD Credits to Excelsior since they said they will accept NA Credit?

In theory, Excelsior will consider them, but I believe there is a charge for that and no guarantee they will accept the credits.

Why not just transfer your credits to American Military University? They are both NA and RA, will accept DETC credits, and they have a bachelor degree in marketing.

A good way to check is to call Excelsior and ask if they have accepted NA credits from your institution. If they have, it will make your application process easier. I don't think you'll have any problems transferring credits from CSU to Excelsior as long as they are equivalent.

I called the college today and now I'm really confused. The admission rep told me today that they DO NOT accept NA credit. When I questioned him on the website about them accepting NA credit he looked up the college in some database he said and informed me that they will not accept CSU credit. I thought other people on this forum said they had changed their policy?

I think Excelisor will accept NA credits if they are either ACE reviewed or credit banked through Excelsior's credit bank service. I am looking into this for my mom and the admissions counselor I talked to, suggested credit banking the courses first via Excelsior then applying them to a degree program.

They did. The Liberal Arts catalog states that Excelsior will accept NA credit IF one can document three other RA schools having accepted credits from the particular NA school. You will also have to pay a fee for this. Call them back and if given the same line, ask to speak to someone higher up in the food chain.

That person forgot to read the memo. Sounds like someone had a bad case of the mundays :). The following is written in page 3 of the School of Business catalog:

    10. Degree-granting professional school programs with Council for Higher Education ( CHEA ) professional accreditation following Excelsior College's
policy on credit acceptance of transcripts from non-regionally accredited
    professional schools.

    11. College-level credit from any degree granting institution accredited
by the Distance Education and Training Council ( DETC ) that has also been approved and recommended by the American Council on Education's ( ACE )
    College Credit Recommendation Service.

The policies are stated on the following web pages.

    https://www.excelsior.edu/Excelsior_College/Admissions

    https://www.excelsior.edu/Excelsior_College/About/Ways_to_Earn_Credit

The approval process is described in page 82 of the Business Catalog.

This may help you as well. I think I wrote to them back in 2006 sometime. There is a contact person for Excelsior as well, Scroll all the way to the bottom:

    Dear Abner,

Thank you for your inquiry to Excelsior College.

You are generally correct in your understanding of the process. I would just add that the coursework must be degree level and there are some limitations when it comes to NLN and ABET degrees.

As well, the nationally accredited institutions must be approved by the US Department of Education and hold either professional or national accreditation, as verified by CHEA.

I hope this information is helpful to you. If you need further assistance, please contact us again or call our toll free number at 1-888-647-2388 ext. 2-7.

    Sincerely,

    Emily Glasser

    Hello:

Can you tell me if there was a new policy instituted effective 7/1/06 whereby a potential Excelsior student can follow the procedures listed below in regards to transfer of Nationally accredited Colleges/Universities?

    1) Student must pay $200 appeals fee
    2) Student must complete an "appeal" letter, which Excelsior will make available
    3) Student must provide official NA transcripts
    4) Student must provide NA school catalog with course descriptions for the year(s) attended
    5) NA school must provide signed letter referencing 3 RA schools that have accepted its credits in the past
    6) Package goes before a board for a decision.

Would this procedure apply to the National Accreditor DETC? DETC is recognized by the U.S. DOE and CHEA. Please advise.

I would say go for it! Please keep us posted.

    Abner
