Hi All. I came across this. Looks like a great program through Northwestern's Kellogg School (although not through distance learning and VERY expensive). Curious to see if any knows of other Post-MBA programs out there. http://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/execed/programs/MGMT08/index.htm
Thunderbird offers a distance Post MBA program. It is also very costly but appears to be a better value than Northwestern. Northwestern - $23,000 for a 19 day program Thunderbird - $38,615 for 14 or 15 courses http://www.thunderbird.edu/prospective_students/ft_degrees/post_mba/index.htm You may want to see if any local colleges in your areas offer Post MBA or Post Master’s certificates. Usually, a post MBA certificate will consist of 3 or 4 MBA level courses in a specific concentration.
Isn't a DBA the next logical step? Although not specifically a post-MBA London offers several business post-graduate diplomas http://www.londonexternal.ac.uk/prospective_students/postgraduate/index.php
>> Since I am not in business, I might not "get it" but what on earth would a person spend $23K for in 19 days?!?!? You don't even get a degree out of it? Whooo that's steep.
Whatever happened to just keep on reading the WSJ or FT or as suggested spend that money on a DBA? Some cashcows are just too good for some universities with so many suckers willing to pay that much money!
Someone may have an MBA concentration in marketing and want to add a concentration in say finance. They could pursue a graduate certificate or a post MBA. From what I have seen offered from local colleges in my area, there is really not much difference between a post MBA and a graduate certificate. The MBA is a requirement for the post MBA but the courses are still MBA level. I suppose a post MBA may sound a little better on a resume than a graduate certificate.
Maybe yes and maybe no, depending on the aspirations and goals of the individual. A DBA is going to require a dissertation (ugh), while secondary Masters level specializations will not. Completing a dissertation is like eating an elephant: it takes a looooong time and may not: 1. meet the expectations of everyone 2. or be suited for everyone. Conversely, an additional Masters level specialization may meet employment or academic needs without trying to undertake the enormity of completing a dissertation.
If you did an MBA in the U.S. and wanted to take some international management courses UoL external would be a quick and reasonably-price choice. You could earn a postgraduate diploma in international business or international management by taking 9-11 courses or a certificate in international management by taking 5 courses. The Thunderbird post-MBA also seems to be geared towards global business but it costs more and would take longer. Some thought is definately required to figure out the value of a post-MBA degree. Perhaps if you have been out of school for a long time? Has anyone asked the schools about the profile of students in these programs?
I am considering doing one of the eCornell certificates when I finish my MBA, not sure if they are explicitly marketed as post-MBA, but the content would suggest they are. I like the Executive Leadership choice. My MBA will be from Henley in the UK and I want to subsequently get a US school on my resume. At just over $2K it seems a great way to study something that interests me and get an Ivy League name in my credentials. http://www.ecornell.com/catalog/certificates/lsmc02.jsp Kelly offer something similar: http://kd.iu.edu/programs/certificates/smc/overview.htm Here is an actual post-MBA (modular) certificate program which I've not yet taken the time to look at in details: http://view.fdu.edu/default.aspx?id=3970 My MBA includes a dissertation, one of many reasons why I have zero intention of taking a DBA! All the best, Dave C.
Davenport University offers a number of Post-Graduate Certificates. These are 18 units, good for picking up additional teaching opportunities. $7650 at $425/hr and RA.
