A comprehensive and very favorable article on Walden University, one of the pioneers in distance learning, appears in the November issue of "University Business" magazine (http://www.universitybusiness.com/magazine/0111/cover.mhtml). I had not known that Sylvan Learning recently bought a major stake (41%) from owner Don Ackerman, nor had I known of the university's military connections. Ackerman, who bought the university from its founders, is a West Point grad and Air Force pilot and was professor at the Air Force Academny, and their CEO, General Scales, was commandant of the Army War College and author of the official Army book on the Gulf war, "Certain Victory."
