Athabasca Univ. has a good reputation in DL circles. With RA status, affordable tuition and flexible degree options (e.g. three year Bachelor degrees), Athabasca is a good find indeed.

BTW, the tuition that you described is listed in Canadian Dollars. The US dollar is only slightly stronger right now, but it is stronger.

The conversion would be as follows:

    $1734/9 credits CAD = 1,719.93 USD

This equates to $192.66/credit CAD OR $191.07 USD. Quite a bargain!

P.S. I really like both their Psychology and Anthropology BA programs. I have been thinking about pursuing either or both of these programs for a while now.

    Doctoral Program More Expensive

    Hi All:

Being a Canadian DL aficionado, I am very familiar with Athabasca. I took one course from them during my M.Ed, for transfer, and enjoyed the experience A LOT. The course was challenging, well-structured and the course tutors were easy to contact.

However, the tuition rates for graduate, and their singular doctoral program, are considerably higher than undergrad rates. So...for those interested in a high quality Canadian DL doctorate, this is what you'd be looking at:

    Program Application fee:

    $100

    (Non-refundable, must accompany application)

    Yearly program fee:

    $4250**

    (Payable in two equal instalments)

    Course tuition fee:

    $4000

    (Per course)

    Course withdrawal fee:

    $300

    Continuation fee:

    $2125*

(Per 6 month period beyond the first 4 years of the program)

Given that we ultimately plan to return to the Caribbean, getting my doctorate from a university in a Commonwealth would be ideal.

Yup, and this is why Athabasca (and the University of Calgary, which also has a distance doctoral program) dropped off my list.

What are the additional fees for Master's Studies?

Careful with the tuition fees. The Canadian dollar is pretty much on par with the U.S. right now, but it is expected to trend higher in 2008.
