From my research, it looks like JSU started their Distance Learning program in 2006.

    According to the Princeton Review:
    http://inquiry.princetonreview.com/mba/accelerated/default.asp?destID=feature
    Jacksonville State University is:
    http://www.jsu.edu/depart/ccba/index.html
    GMAT Requirements:
    http://www.jsu.edu/depart/graduate/bulletin/2006-07Bulletin.pdf#page=87
    Tuition:
    http://www.jsu.edu/depart/undergraduate/catalog/tuition.html
What am I missing? This sounds pretty good! What is more interesting is that the General MBA only requires 30 graduate credits (as long as foundational undergraduate courses are completed). From what I can gather it sounds like you can complete an AACSB RA MBA for under $10,000.

Here is some more information from Gradsource

Interesting. That is dirt cheap and AACSB to boot.

They have an oral exam at the end of the program? Never seen that in an MBA program before.

Mighty difficult to finish in 1 year since they appear to be on the semester system.

Awesome, awesome find. At present tuition rates of $225/grad credit hour, this DL MBA degree would cost $6,750 (30 hrs * $225) plus books and other fees.

Thus far, this program represents the least expensive AACSB-accredited MBA program for out-of-state residents that I've seen to date. In fact, the earlier "best buy" -- University of South Dakota MBA -- costs $2,000 more.

Jacksonville State also lists additional undergrad and grad programs available via DL.

It looks extremely promising if it's true. However, doing a search for available online business graduate courses has come up empty (using their course search function).

We'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if JSU can comment over the phone on a 12 month online MBA program.

They also have a Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management

They have a pretty well respected (in the field) MS and MPA in Emergency Management as well. They also have one of the few reasonable PE master's online. JSU has been one of my favorites for a while. ☺

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

    The Good:

JSU does offer an Online MBA Program for $225/hr ($6750/30hr Gen MBA)

    The Bad:

JSU does not offer an Accelerated 12 Month Online Program

    The Ugly: (not really)

JSU's Online MBA Program follows a traditional role, online classes may be completed 2 classes per term, and the classes rotate on a 2 year basis, meaning you will not be able to complete the Online MBA program in less than 2 years (as per the Dr.)

So, this is fantastic news for anyone looking to follow a traditional 2-year MBA program online, because it is extremely inexpensive.

One thing you are missing is that a 30 semester hour MBA is not unusual if you already have an undergraduate business degree. The 60 hour MBA is designed for people with useless undergrad majors, like history! Even then, it is up to the individual school to decide whether they require (or even offer) the up to 30 hours of leveling courses for those with liberal arts undergrad degrees.

I can think of multiple definitions for PE - which is this one?
    Thanks

I have additional information for anyone who is interested in JSU's Online MBA Program

    Unconditional and Conditional Admission
This means if you achieved the minimim GMAT score of 400 you must achieve a GPA of 2.75 for unconditional admission and 2.25 for conditional admission.

If you have a GPA of 2.0 (minimum accepted) then you must achieve a GMAT score of 550 for unconditional admission and 450 for conditional admission.

Sorry, "Coach" only thinks of one real "PE" - Physical Education. Those Professional Engineers "PE" aren't really "PE" ☺

I reconfirmed with Dr. Clark that credits are charged $225/hour for Distance Learning.

Officially, from what I can find:

    $20 Application Fee
    $20 Degree Fee
    $225/credit hour

This comes to $6790 + Books/Materials (and any other fees I missed, but I doubt it) for 10 courses.

This will allow you to attain a AACSB RA General MBA.

    Everything is completely online.

You say General MBA, are the concentrations listed not available in online?

The price of this MBA from Jacksonville State may substantially increase.

...Other proposed cost increases are: $25 per hour for graduate course work, an 11% increase, a $50 per credit hour charge for undergraduate and graduate distance learning courses, an increase in application fee to the university to $30, and an increase in residential housing of approximately 15%...

Total tuition would go from $6,750 to around $9,000. Increases stem from budget cuts "of approxmately 14% for Alabama's Four Year Colleges and Universities". Will tuition at University of Alabama, Troy, Auburn, and others increase as well?

    Even at $9,000 that's a great bargain for a AACSB-accredited MBA program.

Just curious if anyone else is starting the MBA program at JSU this fall? I will be enrolled, starting in 3 weeks.

Also, to update this thread: The cost per credit hour is now $300 - $9000 for 30 semester hours...still a really great deal for an AACSB MBA...

So they accepted all your undergrad classes toward the 24 credit foundation classes? I am interested in this school due to cost first and reputation second. I didn't major in business (but minored in Econ), so I have real doubts I can get away from more than half those foundation classes.
