    All,

I am looking at what Masters level degrees are available in Business Law via distance learning. I have found a few in the UK and was wondering what is available in the US without a pre-requisite of previous law degree. I would prefer something from as highly-ranked/regarded a University as possible, nothing too obscure.

UK example of what I am looking for - http://www.dmu.ac.uk/Subjects/Db/coursePage2.php?courseID=5029#quickLink0

    Thanks in advance,

    Dave C.

Law via DL is tough in the US. There is the California Univ. of PA masters program. Not sure if the curriculum interests you.

The only ABA approved LLM via distance that I know of is Univ. of St Thomas. It is an international taxation program. It says you need to have a law degree to get in, but I have heard of accountants being admitted. Not sure if this is true.

    Thats all I can help.

UConn offers a distance LLM in insurance law. I thought that they also offered a distance LLM in taxation, but I can't find any information about that now.

University of Illinois Springfield offers a MA in legal studies online, as I recall price is not bad, something in the range of $10-$12000.

    Thanks everyone.

I probably should have been a little more specific. I am in the last part of my MBA and have recently taken a new job within the same organisation which has a lot of exposure to the legal aspects of business. As such I am looking for a qualification for knowledge and career progression, I am not and have no intention of becoming a lawyer. I want something in law with a business bias, but not overlapping my MBA too much.

Not sure if this expands my options at all?

    Best regards,

    Dave C.

I would say the Woodbury College MS mentioned by Bruce may fit your needs pretty well (as an aside I pick up Vermont radio where I live and have heard their ads). It looks like a good, solid program that covers the basics and offers a concentration in managerial law.

The MA from University of Illinois Springfield might also do.

If you want to consider an English LLM I have a list of some/most of the distance learning ones.

University of West Virginia also offers a MA in legal studies but as I recall it was very expensive if you were out of state.

    November,

I am English/Irish, living in Scotland, so please do send me your English (British!?) DL LLM list. I have found quite a number also and can share mine if you are interested.

I'll check out Bruce's suggestion too.

    All the best,

    Dave C.

Here's my list. As you've done your own research there probably aren't any surprises here for you.

A lot of these LLMs are specialized. Northumbria (which is relatively close to you), Derby, De Montford (as you've mentioned) and I think Staffordshire offer more or less general LLMs. Aberdeen and Robert Gordon offer international business law LLMs. Aberdeen is a choice that is very interesting given that it is a well known university and highly ranked, also as you're in Scotland that might be additional appeal. I did my LLM at Northumbria but I would have thought about Aberdeen (not sure if the program existed when I started).

One of the more specialized LLMs may fit for you if you can find something directly related to your field.

    Staffordshire: http://www.staffs.ac.uk/courses/pgpt/ptpg_law/tcm6814995.php

Dundee: http://www.dundee.ac.uk/cepmlp/main/html/DL/DL-LLM%20and%20Diploma.php (requires three week compulsory attendance)

The De Montfort link in my previous post doesn't seem to be working. Hopefullythis one is okay.

Also, Queen Mary University of London offers a distance learning LLM (computer and communications law). I initially thought it was part of the London external programme, but it seems not. Here's the link:

They also offer a graduate diploma in commercial arbitration which I'd love to take but it works on a January - December schedule rather than a normal academic year, which is a pain.
